San Marin/San Miguel not worth the money.

Sure it looks nice when you tour it: pretty landscaping, clean pool, condo spec apartments. But you quickly realize that while the apartments are nice, the managers are running the place into the ground.
My roommate and I have reported the water damage that occurs every time it rains to the office several times. They always say they'll look into it, but they never do. I have a feeling every apartment on the top floor is leaking, but it's nothing a new coat of paint won't fix for the next renter.
One reason for the apathy may be that the San Marin has gone through more managers than I can count. Every time I walk into the office, there is a completely new staff!
Parking and security are another big issue. Guests frequently take up all of the spaces (including the covered parking, which is first come first serve) Also people often park in the fire lanes, which is not only dangerous, but makes if very difficult to back out of a real parking space.
The gates in front of the San Marin are a joke. I'll come home at 1 or 2 in the morning and they are wide open. I actually prefer that to trying to get my friends in. It took the San Marin half a year to put my name into the directory at the gate. As a result, I couldn't open the gate for friends. I actually had to walk out there with my opener to let them in!
In the end, I'm not sure what the gates really do for security. Several months ago, my car was broken into at the San Marin and the stereo was stolen (and dash ripped out). Many other cars were hit also and the glass from their windows is STILL all over the place! Rather than help coordinate the break-ins (which would get more police attention), the San Marin just told me to call the police. They wouldn't tell me who else lost their stereos; in fact, at first they tried to convince me that I was the only one!!
My last complaint is with pets. Around my unit, there are about half a dozen roaming cats. I'm sure they belong to tenants, but they are always outside. They seem to especially love newly washed cars (with no car stereos) since my car is covered in paw prints every morning.
All in all, the San Marin has a great location, nice green belt, and the apartments are well made. The problem lies almost entirely with the anonymous and apathetic staff. I have to say that managers at other apartment complexes differentiate themselves by saying they are older than the San Marin, but are in much better shape.
If you're going to spend this much money on an apartment, spend it on a safe one that takes care of its tenants.
