Good if you want a sweet pool, But there are better places out there...

I've lived here for about 1.5 yrs. I'm a 27yr old single male. (You can judge if it's for you based on your demographic.) All in all this place get a big "OK". I am a bit steamed though because it's coming towards the end of my lease, and there is no lease-loyalty clause even though the market is down now.

I've lived in 2 apartments at SanPal since moving to Austin. My 1st one flooded after about a month. It was reparied relatively quickly, and without pain. Then it flooded again. That kinda pissed me off, so i had them move me into another unit. I did have to sign another lease though, and my rent did manage to go up just a bit. In the year since, I have had no major problems with the unit itself, but the workmanship is mediocre to say the least. None of the cabinets line up, the tile in the bathroom is uneven, and the walls and floors are paper thin. (Even as I write this review, I can hear my neighbor practicing acrobatics on the trampoline upstairs) I don't think these things are trivial for the amount of money you are spending every month. No utilities are paid, but the apts are energy efficient, so don't expect to pay high bills. My electricity avgs $30 and gas is about $12-15 per mo. The units are laid out poorly, so don't expect to have much furninture either unless you are in a 2-2 or above.

Parking here is not the best. There are plenty of spots, but are all about 4.5' wide, so that effectively cuts the amount by about a third. If you can afford it, get a carport.

The best part about living in San Paloma is the pool. It's really nice, and has a 10' tall Roman cascading fountain in the middle. There's always tons of activity at the pool, and there is also a sand volleyball court (with sand imported from Spain) where people who take the game too seriously can be found nightly. The have a 24hr gym, and tanning beds for use as well.
The staff is super friendly, and I have never had a problem with any of them.

Overall it is an OK place to live, great ammenities if you use them, and a good place for families. As far as safety goes, I've never had a problem, but have been seeing police cars a lot more often these days. I recommend you look around before deciding to rent here, as rates all over the city are great right now.
