There's good news, and there's bad news.

Years at this apartment: 1999-01-01 - 2003-01-01
I lived here for four years, so I know whereof I speak. Listen up!! :-)
The good news:
The apartments are great big, because they were built in the late 80s and meant to be sold as condos, but then there was the recession and they couldn't be sold. So you get cool things like french doors and two porches.
Storage is okay. Closets are BIGBIG.
The walls are nice and thick, but not soundproof.
The roof on every building is brand new.
It's right at the edge of Austin--ALMOST like living in a small town.
The bad news:
ANT PROBLEM. If you have the little boogers, learn to live with it. They ain't leaving. (They're sugar ants, so when they bite you, it doesn't hurt too much.)
The crime-type stuff started happening a few months before I moved out.
Insulation is TERRIBLE. If you live in a second-story apartment, be prepared to pay $250 every month for electricity in the summer, and not much less in the winter.
Maintenance is nice enough, I guess, but not prompt by any means.
The office is rarely open. Expect service Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-5pm and hours such as that.
Stair rails are RICKETY and SCARY.
People speed through the parking lot like they are on fire, despite the speed bumps.
A stray cat got hit by a speeding car and died in our flowerbed. Who disposed of it? Not management or maintenance. I did.
Our deposit was $400. They charged us an extra $400 after we moved out--we'd been there for FOUR YEARS, and it was for carpet cleaning and the like (which wasn't new when we moved in). Dude. Ridiculous. We would have refused, but they threatened to ruin our credit.
You know, it was good enough when we moved in, but it's definitely gone downhill. I'd keep looking if I were you.
