This place is, quite literally, falling apart.

My husband and I needed a place in north Austin on short notice (and a small income), and we chose this place because of the low rent. Now that we have better pay, we're trying to get out of here.
Our application was lost and it took almost a whole month for them to straighten it out. We signed our 12-month lease on October 20, 2007 but they are telling us our lease is up in September. What's worse is they let us know this TODAY and told us we would need to give a 60-day written notice in order to move out. Well, seeing as there are not 60 days between now and September (and we thought we had until the end of October), this cannot happen.
I digress. When they finally moved us in there were maintenance tools left in the bathroom (a saw and some wood pieces) and the reason they gave us for not being able to move in the previous week ("The floor is coming up around the toilet, which is loose") wasn't fixed, and still hasn't been.
There were some small cracks in the southern wall of the apartment, as well as dips in the floor along that wall. Over the past year the cracks have gotten larger, the dips more pronounced, and we cannot even shut our closet door (it used to be able to shut, but now the top of the frame is no longer parallel to the ground and the door won't fit in it).
The maintenance is slow, and they don't quite fix everything fully. Because of what I suspect is a foundation problem my front door sticks and it takes much effort for me to open it. Because of this, my key broke off in the door. Maintenance took sixteen hours to respond to this problem (overnight I was locked out because my key broke in the door) and when they did "fix" it they just pulled my key out and didn't fix anything to make the door any easier to open. Also, our air conditioner has been leaking and they won't fix it.
Once I reported some signs of a leak in our kitchen. Because I couldn't point out where exactly in the pipe the leak was they wouldn't fix it. A month later it got worse and they sent someone to look at it. The pipe was leaking in a place that could not be seen and the whole sink had to be fixed. Because of the prolonged water damage the counter is now permanently warped.
The neighborhood is terrible. I'm glad my car looks like a piece of junk because a nice car parked next to it recently got broken into. I am often propositioned by.. Erm.. "Women of loose morals" when I am driving down the side streets here (I guess they're desperate for business, male or female).
I hope we can get out of here. I have proof we signed the lease on October 20, 2007, so there is no reason for them to be telling us we should have reported moving out sixty days prior to September.
