Pros and Cons

My husband and I moved in during October 2005 and overall we are happy with this property, despite a few minor glitches.

I'd never actually had a permanent address inside city limits before, and though this is definitely in the middle of things, you don't hear nearly as much as you would expect at the back of the complex. We are in building five and aside from the occasional siren (it's down the street from a hospital I think) and the very occasional music or conversation from neighbors standing outside, it's been pretty quiet. The neighbors all seem to be good people who aren't big partiers and everyone really respects everyone else's space. We live upstairs, so I don't know if the people below us think we are elephants even though we try to step lightly or not, but it's been good for us.

The management is friendly to us. Jennifer and Sarah are both really sweet and seem to care about their residents. My husband said that he had some minor difficulties placing a work order one time, but I've never experienced this first hand. We've had a few minor repairs since our move-in and they were done within a few days of placing the request.

The major con for this place to me mostly has to do with the appliances. In our unit, a lot of them are older. Though I don't particularly mind not having a state of the art oven or dishwasher, the faucets kind of drip and we think the refrigerator might be on its last legs. We had an unusually high electric bill this month and are trying to figure out if any appliances are the cause.

Also, the water heater is tiny and I have yet to make it through a shower without exhausting it's capacity. Factor in two people who need to shower, a dishwasher and a washing machine and it's often difficult to get all of ones various washing needs done on such a small heater.

Given this, I'm sure there are better and worse places in the world to live, but for us, it's a nice little newlywed nest.

P.S. When we were first visiting the complex, we were shown a vacant unit on the third floor of building three. It had one of the best views of downtown I've ever seen if you are into that sort of thing.
