Here is a news story about what can be done. Also, as mentioned in earlier ratings you can contact Normas manager directly. That REALLY helps!

AUSTIN -- A rat in his kitchen was not the wake-up call Azgad Crisostomo was expecting.
"It was trying to peel itself off the sticky trap and it was gnawing through its feet," he said.
Crisostomo caught the encounter on home video, which he showed to 7 On Your Side. As distrurbing as it was, it would not be the last time.
"They've had this problem for years," he claimed.
Azgad showed us videos of three different rats in the same month. He said two of the rats appeared on the same day.
"I couldn't sleep right because there are rats roaming around," he said.
Another tenant, who has since moved out, didn't want his identity revealed.
"I'm fed up and I just -- I broke my lease and just moved out," he said.
We found rat droppings all over his kitchen, as well as marks on the floor that, he said, came after a rat fell down the chimney and caught on fire.
"Basically had a fire going one night, and something dropped down the flue, and it was a rat," said the former tenant. "And it caught in fire. And I had to put it out with a broom here in front of my fireplace."
The complaints come from Harpers Creek Apartments on East Oltorf. City code inspectors investigated one rodent complaint there. Apartment management admitted to Fox 7 that there was a rodent problem, but Harpers Creek insists they brought in two exterminators, and closed up the cracks that rats came in through. They believe the problem is now corrected.
And code inspectors think so too. They said, after a rainy 2007, rodent reports have spiked all over the city. So what should you do if you have a rodent problem?
"Run away!", said Katherin Stark with the Austin Tenants' Council.
All kidding aside, Stark had the following suggestions:
- Notify your landlord in writing.
"That doesn't mean call in, and have them write out the slip," she said. "That means you sit down with a piece of paper and you write a written request for repair."
- Send the notice certified mail with a "Return Receipt Requested," so the landlord has to sign for it.
The letter should detail the problem. Mention that the rodents pose a health and safety risk, and include photos if you can. The law generally gives apartments seven days to fix the problem. If the problem persists, send another certified letter, demanding a licensed exterminator.
It's hard for Azgad Crisostomo to watch the videos now. He's since moved out, but is still concerned about his old neighbors.
"I've never had to deal with such things in my life," he said.
