In what ways is Stoneleigh at Gracy Farms NOT a poorly-managed, cheaply-built, nightmare of a place to live'
Managerial staff is HORRIBLE! As you continue reading, you will see why Stoneleigh cannot hang on to management staff longer than a month, and why the only one who lasted longer than that has the pissiest attitude you'll ever find.
The only way that comes to mind is the picturesque greenbelt, if you are lucky enough to live on that side. But even that has its issues, as transients walk through the greenbelt, police helicopters hover over suspects as they make their escapes through the greenbelt, and oh, yes, freight trains come through nightly with their horns blaring along the greenbelt.
PARKING: a total nightmare because: reserved spaces are NOT enforced by the management. Even though you are paying an extra $40 a month for a reserved space, not once has the management had a parking violator towed away for parking in a reserved spot. Also, not enough parking for the rest of the schmoes who won't pay $40 for a piece of covered concrete, since there are not enough parking spaces to go around, and if you are lucky enough to get one, it's always too small and your car is guaranteed to get dinged.
NOISE: is atrocious because: management does not enforce the city noise ordinances, and neither does the city. Whether your neighbors are downstairs, upstairs, across the hall, or even in a separate unit, noise carries, and no one does anything about it. Case in point: four times I tried to get my downstairs neighbor, a DJ, to keep the noise down after 10:30 at night, because I like to sleep and the city says that's the law. He blew me off, so I took it up with the management, who, for all I know, blew me off, too. I then called the popo, who came out one time, at 1AM, and that still didn't do anything. Did I mention the management doesn't give a rip'
GROUNDS: are, well, just dirt and grass. If you have a dog, you can let it poop anywhere you want, because, again, the management may have "designated doggie zones," but does the management care if your dog poops on the grass next to where people park their cars so they step in the stuff right before they get in their cars' Oops, that would be a rhetorical question.
SAFETY: would be assured with a "gated community," right' Think again - the only "gated" part of this place is the front entrance; no walls, no fences, anyone can walk right in as long as they don't go through the front gate. Oh, but wait, they probably can go through the front gate every now and then, because that's as rare as the front gate actually works.
CONSTRUCTION: is abysmal. I mentioned my downstairs DJ neighbor earlier. How often do you find an apartment complex where you can not only hear the stereo and TV from your downstairs neighbor, but also hear your downstairs neighbor's conversations through the floor' To top that, I'd say the exterior walls on this place have the least amount of insulation allowed. The bedroom closet, which is on an outside wall, is a minimum of 15 degrees warmer/colder than the outside temperature, depending on the time of year. This is one serious issue that replacing crappy management won't solve.
MAINTENANCE SERVICE: is an oxymoron to these morons. I said a lot already about the chuckleheads who run this place. Another example follows: the same week I moved in to my apartment, I noticed an issue with the lack of carpet cleaning and wrote a letter to the management, which is always a good thing to do if there is a maintenance issue, and hand-delivered the letter to the manager. Well, it is now 11 months later, and still no response. What is wrong with this picture'
OFFICE STAFF: turns over about every month. Each time I go to pay my rent, I hand my check to a different person. No one who works in the office at Stoneleigh understands the meaning of "customer service." You'd think that would be a basic part of training or applying for a job with an apartment community where you have to service customers on a daily basis. As I mentioned earlier, I get no response from these goons on any of the concerns I have mentioned (parking problems, noise, maintenance issues) which, most reasonable people would agree, are the little things that are easy to solve or enforce and that can make living in an apartment complex either a living hell (like at Stoneleigh) or somewhat enjoyable.
OVERALL: I think I said my piece pretty well, but there is no way I would move to Stoneleigh if I had to do it all over again. Take your time, do your homework, and give your hard-earned rent money to an apartment community that deserves it. There are some good places in Austin, you just have to be patient and take a good look at the management staff before you move in. I've learned that makes all the difference. Even though I was paying $300 more a month for a smaller place before I moved to Stoneleigh, it was definitely worth it because the management staff at my old apartment did several things right: the other staff enforced the apartment complex rules; the other staff were courteous and friendly and sometimes even stayed late (oh, my!) to solve residents' problems; and the other staff actually knew what they were doing.
BOTTOM LINE: do NOT touch Stoneleigh at Gracy Farms with a ten foot pole!
