Very spacious, but does have some problems

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003

First the good: We have a three bedroom (the largest floor plan I believe) and it is very spacious. The master closet is huge - really, the largest closet I have ever seen in an apartment. It also has plenty of those sturdy wire shelves (the kind that cost quite a bit at the hardware stores). There are plenty of windows to let in light. We did put up curtains, in addition to the blinds, in one of the bedrooms as that Texas sun was hitting hard in that room. I suggest being prepared to quickly hand darker or thicker curtains depending on where your apartment is located.
The bathrooms are nice and open, as is the kitchen. It is one of the larger (not the largest) I have seen in apartments - and we have looked at more places over the years that I care to remember. The kitchen here is actually easier to work in that the kitchen we had in a house we rented.

Plus, there is a laundry room off the hallway - nice to have a different room for that.

We get a nice view of the woods, with plenty of privacy (the greenbelt), but of course have our share of spiders (even a scorpian made it inside once), and tons of wasps or hornets (I think they are wasps). There is someone who is here every Thursday to treat for pests, so just call that week and he will stop by your apartment.

They switched over the maintenance crew, which is great, as the previous crew leader was really not that good (read, should look into another line of work). And we have had tons of maintenance problems, which leads me to the

Bad: In addition to the outdoor pests that sometimes find their ways indoors...(hey, if you do not have a problem with spiders or bees/wasps/hornets you are set. I have not seen a roach yet, of course now I have jinxed it!), so in addition we have had quite a few minor/almost major problems. When we first moved in the washing machine hose had not been properly attached to the wall (on their part) so we got a flood the first night we did laundry. The carpet in the hall had to be replaced - and they did a shoddy, shoddy job. It was an outside crew and the carpet started coming up and bubbling (didn't know carpet could bubble, did you') within weeks. Plus the seems are very visible. Did I mention shoddy'

We had a leak in our master bath ceiling which was quickly addressed and now seem to have another one in our bedroom that might have mold...that gets me very worried. We have had to have the washers in the kitchen sink replaced a few times and the toilets were acting up until they replaced some parts. They are rather quick to address theses issues, but every now and then you have to remind them as the work order gets lost.
As we have children it would be nice if there was a playspace here - they have plenty of room for your pets to roam around, but do not have a play area. There seem to be many more pets here than children, sad to say (for those with children, probably not those with pets)...which leads us to...

The Ugly: Despite the fact that the apartment complex spent the time and money to set aside several enclosed spaces for pets to play, and um...relieve their needs, many residents seem to allow their dogs carte blanche. And there are some very "needy" dogs around here, so keep an eye out when you walk to your car! Speaking of dogs, we love all kinds, really we do but there are so many. The people upstairs who are noisy on so many levels have one that just loves to bound around everywhere at all hours of the night. In the building next to us there are a few larger/louder dogs that are beautiful, but not so much at 2:00 am when their owners are out and they are howling for their return - for over an hour. Then you kids wake up and the night is shot.

So, if you are sensitive to pet noises (I guess cats really don't make much noise) you might want to reconsider this place - they are very, very dog-friendly. I really feel larger dogs as in Great Danes - should have more space than an apartment, but with the economic issues and people having to sell their homes I see they may not have much choice but to bring dogs larger than me to live with them - still, we are looking for a place that does not allow dogs next time.

More on the ugly - seems many residents here enjoy the use of illegal entertainment. You can smell it walking up your balcony in the middle of the afternoon - those with children who care of such things may want to think about this before moving in - it seems to be coming from more than one area. Otherwise this place is rather quiet and peaceful.

About the rent: we got a great deal and pay only 895, plus garage rather than the 1150 asking rent. Worth 895, not so sure about more than that. I have looked around and for 1000 - 1250 you can get a great place that is more kid-friendly or has more social activities, better workout room, etc.

Hope this lengthy review helps!
