2 terrible experiences at Sycamore Springs

1 ) One night, actually morning because it was about 3am, there came a pounding on our door. It startled my wife and I out of our sleep, so I jumped up and through my robe on. I looked out of the peephole and two police officers were standing there. I opened the door, still barely awake, to see hwat was going on. They said that someone had reported hearing shouting and loud banging like furniture being thrown. They said it was reported in our building but not necessarily at our apartment. They questioned us for a second to make sure everything was ok. We told them that we had not heard anything until they came beating our door down. They said goodnight and left. That was no big deal because those things happen, but the next day, the manager calls my wife and starts accusing her. My wife was almost in tears because the manager was so rude to her. I called the manager to find out what the heck the deal was and she told me that loud noises had been reported and it sounded like it was coming form our apartment. I informed her that I had been in bed since 10pm because I go to work at 7am and my wife certainly wasn't making any loud noises because she is pregnant and was sleeping as well. She also said that she had spoken with other residents and no one else had heard anything, just the one person who reported it and she lived two floors below us. The manager got a bit more polite after I told her that I didn't appreciate being treated this way. My wife and I are a young church going family who have never had any problems anywhere and we won't be treated like some young punk college students. She conceded.

2 ) My wife and I signed a year lease at Sycamore Springs but after 6 months I lost my job, not to mention we found out that my wife was pregnant with our first child. I spoke with the management and told them that we would have to move because we simply did not have the money to
pay the rent for the apartment. The manager told me unless someone could be found to move in, I would be responsible for the remainder of the lease, but that if someone could move in we would not be. That was understandable. Well, I didn't know anyone to move into our apartment, so we moved out and decided that we would just have to try and pay them as we could. Less than 2 weeks after we moved out, they moved someone else in. which I though was fantastic because it meant that we were really only responsible for those 2 weeks. Apparently Sycamore Springs management doesn't understand the law when it comes to Tenant/Landlord relations. They sent us a bill from a collections agency for over $6,000 which was two times the amount our rent would have been for the remaining six months of our lease. I had to hire a attorney to contest the charges.
Two different attorneys who specialize in Tenant law told me that it was completely illegal to charge someone the remaining rent if somone else had already moved in and was paying rent on that unit. Naturally, after my lawyer took care of business, I never heard from Sycamore Springs or the collections agency again. However, they did place a big fat negative mark on my credit report. Do yourself a huge favor and don't get tangled up with these apartments. They're not worth getting into this kind of situation with. BuLYzGcKAVo8MQPlcXJq
