I have many complaints! My main beef is the neighbors! I moved into a duplex at the Brooks a few months back, and it has been nothing but problems since my boyfriend and I have moved in! It is mainly the neighbors -- for example:

1) We had some friends come over for a game of "Trivial Pursuit", 2 days later I got a call from the management office about a noise complaint' A month after that, a person that I had never seen before (who claimed he lived next door) came over and told us that we were being too loud for his out of town neighbors (granted it was during SXSW and there were only 3 people in the apartment). That same night this next door neighbor allowed my Siberian husky to get out of my house (she is still a puppy and loves to run), and he shrugged it off as if it was our problem. Luckily we found her at the animal shelter 14 hours later. A month ago, we had a couple of friends over on a Saturday night (another Trivial Pursuit night) and our next door neighbor violently kicked our door through out the night! The next day he wrote a "so called apology letter" claiming that it was bouts of insanity that made him kick our door. So this is a huge problem!'!

2) Our A/C has also been a huge issue! Since we moved in at the latter part of the winter, we did not notice the problem until June (SUMMER). Starting in June when the 100 degree weather began, we noticed that our place was only cooling to about 80 degrees during the day (we like it to be around 70-72 degrees). We called and talked to the complex about the problem and they sent some "no good maintence man" over to check on the problem. Needless to say -- he cleaned the coils more than once, and thought his work was done. Our utility bills are now over $350/month and they do not want to help us out any longer. Oh forgot to mention the peices of wood holding our toilet in place to keep in from leaking (this happened the first week we moved in)!

3) But tonight was the worse! When I got home from work, there was a notice on my door for a "LEASE VIOLATION". For over 2 years, my boyfriend has been with out a car. About 4 months ago, he got a new car. Because off all the time and mileage I spent, we have decided to use his new car to get around. The notice stated that my car (since it has been "inoperable") will be towed in 2 days. I truly believe that this is my neighbors doing (mentioned above), but the management has no responsibility to ask what is going on!

4) With in the last 3 months, I have seen more police cars, helicopters, and SWAT teams at and around the complex. I know that I live very close to downtown, but there has been no resolve to get the trash that lives around here out of the complex. We went through an extensive background check (so they say) to be able to move into the Brooks, but it is almost ridiculous the amount that I have seen police helicopters with spot lights shining down into the complex.

All in all, I can not wait to get out of this lease! The only reason that we moved here was because of the "affordable" price for a 3 bedroom in Travis Heights! TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT! You could spend more on rent, and half of the heart ache that we have spent here!

If you read this -- I beg you to look elsewhere! If you love this area (as I do), do not let the price fool you as I did. They DO NOT treat their tenants well!

Good luck in your home search, and I hope this steers you away from The Brooks. If you notice, I posted "MINIMAL NOISE" due to the fact that you are close to Downtown. But if you are looking for a "QUIET PLACE" look elsewhere, or if you do move her - know that due to your location expect some noise -- your neighbors will not be able to handle it if you complain - NOT NECESSARY!
