One example:
When looking at purchasing a house, I went into the office to inquire about options for getting out of our lease. When we discussed finding someone to take over the lease, I innocently asked if they could start including our apartment on their "available" list when they talked with potential tenants, particularly if they didn't have another apartment available at our's size and on the first floor. It didn't sound too unreasonable to me.

The response I got was a very incredulous, "well, *that* would be like us doing you a *favor*! We wouldn't ever do that."
