Yo!

Living here is great.....If you like to be miserable!

If you are looking for office staff that is completely incompetent, sign a lease here... if you are looking for a place where you never get anything fixed correctly, you'll love it here! If you want to pay astronomical utility bills because they don't maintain things like air conditioners and washer/dryers, this is the place for you.
I have lived at Sterling for a year, and made the mistake of signing a renewal last winter because at that point, things weren't that bad. Then, the management changed (AGAIN- it seems like there's an entirely new staff every time I go in to the office) and this time, things really began to go down the crapper.
The management doesn't seem to know much about working at an apartment complex, much less how to treat residents... In fact, it seems most of the time like they don't know much of anything- every question that is asked of anyone of the office staff is answered vaguely if at all, and they all seem to have been told something different.
That's not to say that these aren't nice kids working in there, they're not the ones to blame, in my opinion. The guilty party' The managers who are equally clueless and have therefore not trained the staff to do anything other than answer the phone and tell people that they don't know anything.
When I first moved in, I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of people working around the complex- fixing things, picking up trash and taking care of the landscaping. In the last couple months, I think I may have seen two different people around and I rarely see them working, they're usually wandering around looking lost.
By the way, if you like to have a comfortable apartment- if you would rather not live in a sauna, don't move in here. The people who "fix" the air conditioners don't really do anything because the problem persists and you end up paying 4 times as much as you should have to for utilities.
If you do choose to move in here, expect to be greeted by bad attitudes, a general tone of exasperation, and to be given the run around... By the managers no less.
Apparently it is impossible to give a resident a definitive answer on any issue, large or small. They usually "think that it'll happen around *insert time frame that is never accurate here*" or they "guess that *whatever* but they aren't sure" THEY GUESS' Isn't their job to know the answers to commonly asked questions''' Or is that not part of the job description'
The only time that you can be 100% positive that they will for sure get in contact with you is when ythey want you to pay money. All businesses have to make money, and it is the resident's responsibility to pay what they owe, but they rarely know know where your payments were applied, how it is that they came up with the amount you are supposed to pay, when you paid the money, or basically anything else about what they are expecting you to pay.
When you pay on time, you should expect to receive notices telling you that you will be charged late fees for not paying.
The point is that the apartments inside are relatively nice. They were constructed cheaply, but all apartments are. They are pretty new which is a good thing, but it doesn't matter since nothing is maintained adequately. The one thing that it's got going for it is that the rent is cheap... as it should be! No reasonable person would pay a higher dollar amount for what you get here.
There are worse places in Austin to live, but there are plenty that are not quite as new that beat the hell out of living here.
If I had it all to do over again, I would have gone ahead and moved out this summer when my lease was supposed to be up. I would NEVER recommend it to my friends....
The best thing anyone could do for themselves is save the energy and choose another place to live.
