it is a college complex...

I lived at UC from 2000-2002 and enjoyed it. The rent was alright, I could have lived in much nicer neighborhoods for the same, but the UT shuttle was the main reason why I lived there.
I am not sure about their policy now, but when I lived there, you HAD to have Direct TV and their crappy internet service. The local thugs would ram the front gate down on a weekly basis and take over the basketball court. Then they would bring their families into the complex on summer weekends and take over the pool area with their BBQs.
Security was horrible. They either had none at all (there were several car jackings outside of the gates and several assaults and break ins when I lived there). Their solution' Get an assistant rent-a-cop in to harass EVERYONE on the property. I would be with my friends at the hottub having a good time and we would get harassed to the point of threatened arrests and PIs. But the thugs 30 feet away were not approached.
Depending on how you look at it, the parties are a positive or negative. I saw them as positive because I met tons of cool people and some good times in that complex, but if you want to study on a Friday night, it will drive you crazy.
Basically, Riverside is a hole, but everyone has to pay their dues and spend a year there.
The internet can be tampered with. I saw someone in the utility closet outside my groundfloor apartment pulling out wires like no tomorrow. I asked him who he worked for and he got all nervous, then took off...turned out he was a resident on the top floor who was pissed that his internet connection was slow. So, he came down and pullled out everyone else's connections...leaving him and his roommates...what a genius, who could have done it''
The break ins are a problem. Girls were being sexually assaulted and robbed. My roommate had his car broken into for CDs. I did not feel safe until I bought a shotgun and a .45. The door-to-door salesmen are just rampant here and they will even bring weed, crack, and acid to your door to sell to you.
Do you want several thugs banging on your door at 3 in the morning'' Then, move here.
Oh yes, they have "panic" buttons...but do you really want to move to a complex that has them'' Especially when they malfunction at 4 in the morning during a freeze, sending the cops to your door to harass you'
I also loved it when I tried to sublet my room for the summer. I had some illegal immigrant come to the door (sent by the complex) who claimed that he had just lost his papers. He then wanted me to LEAVE all my electronics and whatnot and that he "would take care of them." When I never called him back, he left threatening messages on my answering machine.
The construction of these complexes is garbage. I witnessed Jefferson commons go up in about 4 months. The super, Dale, even told me that the whole area was built on a shifting sink hole and that none of the complexes would be around in 10 years...starting with College Park.
Hell, there was even a MURDER up the road on Wickersham at another complex. Someone just standing on their patio minding their own business got their throat cut. If you are a girl, I would not recommend this place. I would only recommend it to big guys who will not be harassed, but even we will find strangers sitting on our couches at 4 in the morning drinking our beer because our roommate forgot to lock the door.
