On June 8, 2007 my daughter signed a lease with University Commons and me as being the guarantor. As a gurantor, I was supposed to provide them with my financial statements (Tax return or check stub) before they can process the papers. Before we left the office we specifically asked if there would be a problem of cancelling if we decide to change our minds. Miguel said don't worry about it cause they still needed our financial records. So I left there confident that the contract was not a done deal until they had my financial statements. Only 4 days later, we called them to say we weren't interested in the apartment any longer. We explained to them that my daughters grants were for campus dorms and not outside apartments and that we would not be able to afford the apartment. And since I never sent them my financial statements I thought everything would be ok. NOPE!. Michelle who was totally rude and unprofessional bluntly said we signed a binding contract and are responsible for 12-months. I told her that my daughters move in date is not till August 25 so they have plenty of time to rent that space out still. I told her upfront and being honest that we could not afford the apartment due to the grant issue plus they haven't gotten my financial statements so how could I have been approved. She said that everyone gets approved. In short, I'm preparing in case they take this to court. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RENT WITH THEM.
