run away!

Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2000
I lived here with four housemates while attending the University of Austin. My housemates were lured in by promises of activities rooms, the cleaned up pool, ethernet access, etc. They wouldn?t even let us see the unit we?d be moving into. That should have been a sign.
This place was awful. We imagined that we could simply jump through the walls-- I cannot believe that they were built to code. We couldn?t even *find* studs in some of our walls.
Maintanence was slow and unreliable. The staff in the office (when I moved in) were terrible. They couldn?t have been more than college kids.
On the light note, the staff did improve some. The whole management was revamped while we lived there. But, the new management wasn?t good enough to get our deposit back within 30 days. We had to pursue relentlessly.
DO NOT let any management get away with not returning your deposit. Seek advice on-line or from a lawyer regarding your options.
Also, several of my roommates had thefts from their car in the parking lot. Tires, stereo. Do you think the management was willing to do even the smallest bit to cut down on this sort of problem. No way. They wouldn?t even fix the access gates. And there was no security gaurd.
And, yes, we did pay our rent on time, every time. And, no, we never left trash on our landing. Nor did anyone ever have to call the cops on us for "noise" issues or anything of the like. When we *did* finally get our deposit back, we got all of it and praise from the management regarding how nice we left the place.
I recommend a co-op, or perhaps check out the Point South/ Bridgehollow apartments just around the block. When I lived there from 1997-1999 the management was so great they knew me (and all of my housemates) by name. And the maintanence service was incredible. I really enjoyed living there.
But, remember, management changes frequently. To get an idea of the *current* quality of an apartment complex-- just stop and ask the people that you see around the grounds. Ask them what they think. Do they want to continue living there'
