University Heights takes the cake. I've even lived in section 8 housing, and it was FAR nicer than this place. I moved in in January, and not one week after moving in, my car got broken into. Two windows broken out, and just to get my registration sticker. They've cut the tape on the window (front and back triangle, both on the driver's side) to get in and make a mess of the car, even though I leave it unlocked. I've seen a few college kids running around, but the majority of people I see look like they've been awake for two weeks, and haven't slept for less. I had a guy offer my crack cocaine when I was moving my stuff in. When I come home at 3 or 4 in the morning, it makes me a bit uneasy seeing people walking around in hoods and sitting around the parking lot and the staircase leading to my building. People also love to sit on their cars and listen to loud polka and drink beer. Management doesn't care. I don't think they leave their office. Also, if you're too poor to afford internet, they have a computer lab, that you have to pay a fee to use. I pay rent, I don't wanna have to pay to use the rest of the facilities. I can understand the washers & dryers, that's standard, but the computer lab's asking a bit much. I'll just go to my friend's place. As far as the interior, it's horrible, as well. The lacquer (if you wanna call it that. I call it oil/latex paint.) is peeling off. The showerhead comes to my chin, and I keep finding loooong hairs in the paint. When they put new carpet in (without giving it that initial vaccuum to remove all the bits that come out of the weave, they're everywhere), they didn't replace the padding underneath. After two months, my carpet was stained to hell. You have to wait 20 minutes inbetween flushes with the toilet, so you have to ration restroom use when you have guests over. The cabinets all look like hell, and I'm afraid to put anything in there. The fridge has none of the railings for the door, so it's useless, and the freezer has no racks. All I've managed to get out of maintenance is having my AC fixed (it wasn't even working at time of move in) and the closet door that was laying on my bedroom floor when I moved in. I have no way of locking/unlocking my patio door from the outside (god knows who can), and only one openable window in the apartment. I think the only saving grace of my apartment is the HUGE patio that's perfect for grilling/parties. Parking sucks when you live toward the front of the complex (all the drunks and idiots love taking up multiple spaces like the giant box truck that's always in the front in the evening.) And the back of the complex just looks a little to shady. I don't even feel safe walking my trash to the dumpsters in the back. Don't let the presence of gates fool you, either. They don't work. They haven't closed since I've lived there in January. Oh, and I think there's something fairly large living in my walls. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV
