I have been living at University Heights for nearly two years, and my disgust with the place has grown exponentially in the past few months.

I also have several friends living in this apartment complex, on both sides of the road. We will remain anonymous because we don't want any retaliation from apt. management or staff, but believe us...there are a lot of problems with this place.

If you're unlucky enough to live on the side of the road without the leasing office, learn how to catch and kill small animals. There is an entire building on that side of the road infested with rats because of cracks in the foundation that allow the critters to get in...one of my friends has pictures of rats and the damage they've done, which is so bad that he's taking them to lawyers, the Better Business Bureau, etc. Two dozen have been caught in the traps already, and they can hear them running around in their place at night.

On the leasing office side, there is a pathway behind the laundry room leading back to a long block of apartments that is completely dark at night. Apparently the lights along the path have been broken for 6 months, and despite multiple complaints to the leasing office, they're still out. The girls I know who live back there are afraid to go out at night at all. Not only could someone easily hide out there and attack them, but there are also a lot of stairs, and someone could easily fall and break bones if they don't know the way in the dark. Hope you like lawsuits, University Heights!

Another complaint is the new communist water billing system they're using for all the new leases. You are billed not for how much water you use, but for the average water bill among all people living in apartments with your floorplan. If you don't use a lot of water, you're helping to subsidize all the people who waste water and have twice as many people living in an apartment the same size as yours...they use more water, but their bill is the same as yours! In one month when only 1 of the 3 people living in my apartment was living here, the water bill was 90 DOLLARS! In reality, we probably only used enough to be charged $15 that month. At the leasing office they will tell you that such shocking water bills will encourage everyone to save water, but it's not going to make people stop living with 3 people in each room, because they're getting a sweet deal. What a ridiculous scheme. Charge a per-person average or let us pay our own water bills independently.

Recently the management changed, and has posted a few letters critical of the way residents have been keeping the place...trashing laundry rooms, keeping unauthorized pets in their apartment, etc. Well guys, listen up -- we'll hold up our part of the bargain if you can hold up yours. Fix the myriad maintenance problems that went uncared for by the previous management before you start getting on our backs for trivial violations. The only way people are going to stop treating this place like a -------- is when it doesn't look and feel like one.

On the brights side, the apartments are huge, the cable is free, and the office staff is nice...too bad they end up taking the blame for the poor management. The final verdict: stay away from this place unless you're a guy who doesn't care about things like safety and upkeep.
