Just swell.

I had a cute first-floor, one-bedroom (650sf) overlooking a "canyon" at the back of the complex. I never dealt with noisy neighbors and absolutely loved the neighborhood. The grocery, bank, vet, shopping, restaurants, video store and bus line (though I didn't need it) are all within walking distance. The subdivision behind the complex is great for biking and there are hiking trails if you know where to look.
My patio spread from the living room to the bedroom and came with two sets of sliding glass doors, which meant lots of light and a spacious feeling. Living alone, I was quite comfortable. I'll agree with the person who griped about the pet deposit--I pet-sat a friend's two cats for a month and would have adopted them when she moved if it hadn't been for the enormous deposit required. I never found management to be rude, but occasionally curt and not always willing to cut you a break. All maintenance issues were taken care of quickly. Be forewarned--they keep tabs on the property and any lease infractions WILL get you a note on your door, such as leaving anything in the front walkway or having a bike on the patio.
I thoroughly enjoyed living at Village Oaks and found it to be very reasonably priced for what I was getting. I was able to sign a nine-month lease and renewed once. Did not renew a second time because they were raising rent and I was planning to move back to Houston, but if I'd been in a position to stay, I would have.
