i finally only have a month left of my lease. the management has done nothing but try and screw me over. i had to transfer to a smaller unit and they charged me $2000 just to transfer. also, there is never anyone is the office. i have to stand around waiting 20 minutes to just drop something off or tan. the crickets are terrible. the pool is always dirty. the washers and dryers are always broken. for about a month only 2 washing machines were working. for me parking hasn't been a big deal but all of my neighbors are horrible. stomping and music at all hours of the night. maintenance always seems to be cutting the grass at 7 in the morning, while the smell of manure seeps through the windows. i would never recommend living here.

Okay I agree with most of what you have said. You do have to wait too long for help sometimes when they are busy. And the washing machines are too expensive and break too frequently. And parking can be difficult too sometimes. The only thing I don't see a problem with is you having to pay a fee to transfer. They don't even have to let you do that. According to your contract, they can hold you accountable for the full amount of rent owed for the original apartment. They are trying to run a business. Just because people change there minds shouldn't mean they should be released of financial responsibilities. Of course things come up in life, people fall on difficult times financially, but that's not the businesses fault. You can't just stop paying bills without consequences. You should look at your lease contract the same way as your credit card bills or car payment. If you take out a loan, you are responsible. You sign paperwork saying so. It is the same thing. Companies that offer loans expect you to pay what you agreed to pay in the contract you sign with them. They are operating a business. If you owned a business and a patron came to you and said they didn't want to pay you, or pay the full amount that they had originally agreed to pay, how would you feel? Keep in mind that if you let them out of it, you have to let everyone else out of it. Eventually you would likely be out of business. Most apartment properties have the same standard for the amount they can legally charge to allow for a lease break or transfer fee. It is usually based on an amount that reflects the remaining time of your current lease and the total amount you pay for your current rent. You also usually have to pay back specials. (EX: This is so that people don't just move in with a special where they pay no deposit or receive two months of free rent and then use that time and then move right back out after the two months is up.) So they didn't rip you off specifically and come up with some random amount for you to pay. It is the same equation for everyone. It has to be because it is a legally governed industry. I know the amounts are still rather large but they are also understandable. I just hope you don't feel like you were singled out. That can be hurtful. Everyone is supposed to go through the same process when it comes to transferring and/or breaking a lease. I hope that whatever situation caused you to have to transfer is now better and you will be able to find another place to live when your lease is up that will make you happy. It can make one miserable to live in a place where you are unhappy! Especially when you pay so much money for rent.
