Place of last resort

I've been living here for about a year and a half. I only stayed because the rent was on the cheap side.

When I first moved in, they gave me an apartment other than the one I was promised because it "wasn't ready". The apartment they did give me had the appliances in the living room for about two days since the maintenance people didn't have time to install them. The bathtub had the worst paint job I've ever seen with a huge red colored crack down the middle. The carper was not attached to the floor on the by the walls. I had a huge roach problem for about 4 months. Every hot and cold tap in my apartment was either reversed or both cold. The stove had knobs that I couldn't read and when they were replaced, they put on the wrong kind, so Hi is Low and Low is Hi (on some burners). After about three months of weekly visits to the managers, I started going every single day before work. This got them to fix most things, but it wasn't until 6 months in that I got them to reinstall the dishwasher (it was installed incorrectly the first time), paint the bath tub, fix the electrical outlets that didn't work, etc. I was very close to calling the BBB to see if I could get out of my contract. I didn't appreciate the way I was treated (ignored) by building management.

The laundry room closes at 9, so as a full-time worker, part-time student, this was incredibly inconvenient for me. Half the time, the washer and dryers will eat your change or will be out of order. The pool (which is 3 feet deep at it's deepest) is almost never in usable condition. The water was green for about two months. My neighbors are very inconsiderate. I have to listen to their music about two days a week. I can still hear it from my bedroom with the door closed. The apartments also pass smells very easily from one to another. I can always guess pretty accurately about what my neighbors are eating for dinner.

The first year I moved in, the person just below me shot himself so I had a night full of cop cars all over the place. Yesterday before going to work, there were 7 police cars (no joke) in front of the property.

Parking is adequate. I've never had to hunt for a parking space outside of the small lot beside the building. As for safety, this place isn't overly unsafe, but if I were in trouble, nobody speaks English so I'd be on my own. There are solicitors pretty regularly (all trying to "save" me, in Spanish) and about 4 days a week I have some restaurant or Spanish-only telephone service leaving a pamphlet on my door.

What bothers me is that this place could really be a nice complex if management cared enough to pour a tiny bit of money into it. My apartment has a great layout, just really ------ quality for pretty much everything. My only complaint about the structure of the apartment is no light or cable outlet in the bedroom.

My ass is out of here soon... good riddance.
