it's not all that bad

I moved to Austin in 2003 to begin grad school at UT, and I signed a lease for this place without ever seeing it. Honestly, it could've been worse.

Pros: LOTS of floor space for your money. I had a 700 sq ft. apt for $550, and the price went down this year to $500. A/C, water, appliances all worked fine. Never called maintenance, not even once. No mold, no bugs. Plenty of parking, and the apartments are QUIET...I never heard my neighbors, ever. It's on the shortest UT shuttle route and it's the first stop, so you will never have a full bus drive past you and you'll always get a seat on the bus.

Now for the cons: the place isn't all that pretty. The interior of the apts is the same quality you'd get in far west, but on the outside they don't look so hot. Lots of non-English speakers drinking beer in the parking lot on top of their broken down vehicles. Lots of non-English speaking little kids running around/clogging the pool at all hours of the day and night. I lived there alone as a 20something female, and I didn't feel supersafe coming home or taking my trash out late at night. Management has changed hands three times while I've lived there, and every group is generally retarded, but that seems to be on par with most student housing around here.

Some people on here have complained of lots of break-ins, but I only ever saw evidence of a car break-in once in the entire year I lived there, and never any residence burglaries.

Overall this place is a pretty good deal for your money if you're a poor grad student like me. If you're an undergrad still living off your parents though, they'll probably be willing to fork over more rent money to put you in a better neighborhood.
