Not too bad.....

Unlike some of the other apartment complexes in Austin that I've lived in, I'm actually somewhat enjoying my time here. It's relatively quiet, with the exception of young children who play outside after school until it is dark. They always notify you when they are going to enter the apartment, which is a major problem I've had with other apartment complexes. The office staff is friendlier then average. Huge plus and probably the reason I keep sticking around -- this place is extremely pet friendly; the deposit is relatively low, and most of it is refundable, with no increase in rent. The rent was fantastic, but they recently upped the rent to a rate that makes the place merely an average deal (it increased about 10% almost overnight). Moving to the bad stuff....I did have a car break-in when I first moved in. Maintenance did help clean up the glass and such, but you do need to consider the part of town you're moving to. This particular part of east Austin is somewhat isolated from some of the craziness, but it's still there. For me, it was a choice between a tiny efficiency in the nicer western part of Austin, or a very large, spacious apartment in the higher crime east Austin. For me, I still think it was a good choice, although you will find a quieter, nicer closet in west Austin for the same price. One other complaint -- the laundry room is downright terrible. It's apparently outsourced, and they don't do very good job. I've literally put my clothes in one machine, find out the machine doesn't work properly, put my clothes in another machine and repay, find out the machine doesn't work properly, and repeat. In regard to the neighbors, it's refreshing to see most of them are hardworking people with kids that tend to refrain from the excessive partying you'll see in many apartment complexes that cater to people my age.
