Move out problems

Be careful upon moving out and don't count on much of your deposit being returned to you. I lived here for 2 years, maintenance was always a problem, never showed up to fix anything, never returned calls after hours, except one time and to only be told by the maintenance guy that he lives in Buda and it is too far to come back. We did a walk-through with the apt staff upon move out, were told everything looked great, now we are getting billed for "degreasing" of carpet, whatever that means. No grease ever thought the carpet that we know of and because the apt staff never would schedule a carpet cleaning, which they are supposed to do free of charge upon renewing your lease, we hired carpet cleaners at our own expense. They've also charged us for "entry repair," but won't explain what it is for. Again, during walk-through, nothing noted to us by staff. Also, we didn't even occupy the apt after Thanksgiving 2007, but a water bill for December equal to our bill from November was deducted from our deposit. We didn't even occupy the apt the entire month of December, yet they charged us as if we lived there. Upon complaining, the staff says "the manager will call you back," which she never does. Overall, find a complex that has good references as far as the apt staff. You have to live there and it really does make a difference if you feel they care about your needs. However, it is my understand staff has just changed AGAIN. This is the third, maybe fourth time management has changed, all new faces in the office, all new staff, in the two years that I lived there. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't live here.

I had the exact same problem. The "grease" spots are caused by shoddy carpeting materials and when you clean them they look better but eventually the stains come back up from the carpet pad. I told the management, and I use that term loosely, about the problem and they said not to worry about it. But then on move-out I'm charged for full carpet replacement even because the new staff had no documentation of that. So be very careful and document with photographs EVERYTHING. The staff didn't seem to care and certainly didn't try to help us out on this. They said it would be too difficult to do research on the state of the carpet before we moved and they cleaned it so we could either pay , sue or have the collection agency come after us. We pretty much got the same treatment when we lived there. And with all the management changes it doesn't seem to have gotten better.
