Close to campus, but is it worth it . . . '

I moved in August 2006 and have had so many problems. The only reason why I renewed my lease is because I am a grad student who is rarely home and I like living close to campus. My carpet and bathtub were filthy when I moved in and my bedroom door had been ripped off of the hinges and left hanging there. I quickly found out that rather than replace broken or stained things, they do cheap fixes (like pulling a broken drain stopper and giving me a rubber one, painting over badly dented/chipped sink and bathtub enamel, spray painting counters with a white paint that absorbs stains instantly, replacing the broken bedroom door with one that doesn't fit/close that they obviously pulled from the bottom of a trash dump and never re-painting it, by "fixing" the gaps in weather stripping around my door they actually enlarged the gaps, etc, etc, etc). When it rains heavily or even lightly for a few hours we get the waterfall effect, where water from the nearly flat roof collects in some areas (directly over the center of stairs, for example) and pours like a waterfall due to the complete lack of guttering. They have plenty of time to come around and litter your door with notices and "newsletters" a couple times a month but when it comes to paying rent you need to drive through downtown to drop off your rent check at 1st and Barton Springs (if you trust the mail then that is one way around that, but they don't refund any late fess for checks lost in the mail). The parking lot has semi-circular curb structures that block about 6 parking spaces so that it screws up your alignment when you happen to go over one (they serve NO purpose except to collect the dog crap from younger stupid residents). The rear parking lot tends to attract homeless around the dumpsters and they still haven't fixed the torn-up asphalt from summer 2007. Roaches and barking dogs make it an even more comfortable environment and any time you call the office to ask for maintenance or any other question, you are confronted with snobbish girls who couldn't be bothered caring that your lifestyle is being threatened by their lack of interest. Did I mention that laundry is 75 cents for a wash (and half the time the drains are plugged so you have to run it through on a different machine) and a dollar for a dry (which takes two runs to actually dry anything) and the only way you can get maintenance done on the laundry machines is to call the laundry company direct (where oh where do you find that number) and provide them with a specific problem and machine number (because saying they are all money sucking machines that don't do their job and you should replace them, isn't good enough). The outdoor lighting that they have recently updated makes the stone grounds appear as if you are living in a Mexican prison compound.
