Still here and scared for my life

I have a lot to say, but since I am at work I figured I would say only the most important thing and not waste time talking about neighbors and dog crap...

I am a single female, just graduated from college and I live here at Waterstone by myself. About a month and a half ago, I came home to my apartment robbed and ransacked. Apparently, while at work (during a rainy day we had recently)someone kicked my door in and stole everything precious to me. Why is this Waterstone's fault' It isn't, really, but the reaction from management made the situation feel so much worse for me.

1. The deadbolt BENT when the door was kicked in- meaning that EVERYONE is not safe due to faulty/CRAPPY locks. I have personally replaced my lock with one I bought to insure my safety.

2. I then called the management (after hours)and left a message telling them what had happened and even through the next day, they never called me back to ask me about it, see if i was OK, or offer any sort of compensation for it (whether it be a unit or building change etc.)...absolutely no show of good management, sympathy, or caring.

3. When I finally WAS able to get ahold of one of the girls (which I totally agree with everyone about them being stuck up and indifferent) at the office,(When the phone wasnt busy going to voicemail during business hours) I told her about what had happened...and that horrible girl never once said "sorry" or "im sorry"......USUALLY when something bad happens to someone and you are hearing about it, you say "oh Im so sorry!" no....this girl said "awww" and then kept talking...made me feel completely worthless and ignored.

4. They are LIARS! When I was speaking to the girl from the office after my break-in, I asked her if this had happened before. She said that I was the first real (random) robbery that had taken place there. The others were people who knew the person and/or had a key somehow..from reading other reviews, I am now finding out that what they told me is a big LIE. I am not the first and am sure I will not be the last. I am on the top floor and this did not even protect me.

Management told me that when I turned in my police report to them, they would review it and decide whether or not to tell the rest of the complex. They said that if the break-in WAS totally random then they HAVE to tell the other tenants, but if it were an inside deal, they wouldn't have to tell anyone. Well, needless to say, they never sent out a memo (Although my break-in was 100% random). They will send a memo about picking up your dog crap and cigarette butts, but not about watching out, being safe, and informing others of these terrifying occurrences. I feel that they are, in turn, lying to all of the residents by not telling them. It looks like a big cover up - that they don't want anyone knowing about the break-ins even though they are happening.

5. Lately, I have noticed that the landscapers walk around with huge sacks of branches and and clippings...and the other day I saw one of them watching me leave in the morning. I am not one to accuse anyone, but IF they are responsible, I noticed how easy it would be to put peoples stolen items in the large sacks and be able to walk around the complex without being suspected. (This is ONLY an observation...I have no other leads to go on...)

6. THEY ARE LIARS. Although they did offer to move me into another unit, they said a unit with my same floor plan wouldn't be available for a couple of months. They told me the apt. # of the unit that is opening up and it is in an even worse location than my current apartment. I KNOW for a fact this is a lie because there are at least 2 units in my building (which all have the same floor plan) that are vacant and have been for months. I don't know why they would not offer me one of these other units, but I just have a feeling they are trying to just shove me in a secluded and unwanted unit.

I have never feared for my life as much as I have since I have lived at Waterstone. Like many said, things started off well, but QUICKLY took a turn for the worse. Although the apartments are spacious and I love my apartments' floor plan, the uneasy feeling I have now will never go away.

Unless drastic changes are made by management, I will not renew my lease. I urge everyone, ESPECIALLY single women, to stay away. OR buy your own deadbolt and install an alarm.

One last little thing that I think is CRAP - as far as I know, ALL of the single units are located in the far back of the complex. This totally boggles my mind because, as an architect, would'nt you want the people in one bedrooms who live alone to be more secure' By locating the single units near the front or by the office' Well no, they shove all the single/alone people in the far back where they are vulnerable and secluded from all the activity of the complex.

I REALLY hope this information can save someone from the same fate I succumbed to.

I have attempted to contact you via phone and email over the last few weeks to no avail. I wanted to take a moment to address the concerns you posted on Apartmentratings.com. Although it obviously was unfortunate that our initial conversation occurred because of an unlucky incident, it was a pleasure speaking with you over the phone. I believe the level of your concerns you spoke about make this urgent. -I am asking you to remove or revise your comments. I understand you are upset and feel the need to express it. However, I believe you need to do so in a manner that does not injure our reputation by making bad faith allegations against us to others. I would like to take a moment to recap our documentations of the event. -You contacted the office around 8:30 pm on September 10th in which my maintenance assistant immediately responded and came out to make sure everything was ok and he fixed the strike plate that was bent. He reported the lock to be fine and in working condition. There was no other damage to the lock or front door and you were able to secure both locks before he left that evening. Then the next morning before 10 am my assistant office manager contacted you and spoke with you. She and my maintenance assistant completed our Incident Report and immediately brought it to my attention as they were both concerned for your situation. You then received a call from me (the manager) where I left you a message. In the mean time I even called my supervisor making her aware of the incident. You returned my call at 2:28 pm in which all of this transpired the very next day. All of this was conducted because we care what happens to our residents. -My documentations of our conversation on September 11th were lengthy and intimate and in no way were you ignored or not taken seriously. I continually expressed my concerns for you and even exchanged a personal experience. I requested you put your requests of moving to another unit or even moving out in writing and I would see what I could do. Together we went over our availability of your floor plan. I have no reason to lie to you and never did or would. I informed you that both of the units below you were already leased and the only one available was in building 6 in October. Building 6 is located by the back gate which is closer to the police station verses the front of the community. The community is a large horse shoe and none are secluded. I noted you stated you were ok with waiting. I invited to you view the location of the unit and if you wanted to proceed you needed to come in and put it in writing. You never submitted any written request to move, nor did you complete the written request to transfer, therefore leading me to believe you wanted to remain in your home. -In our conversation I expressed that we care about your safety, but we cannot provide or guarantee it. In every apartment community in this city, crime occurs, just like in neighborhoods all over the county. I did not lie to you when I told you, we on-site, are not at liberty to make the final decision to notify the residents. As promised we submitted our Incident Report to our Safety and Claim Manager and resubmitted it again on the 15th of September along with a copy of your police report. I understand the incident may be at random but it was isolated, therefore a notification to the residents was not sent. I have been the Property Manager here for Waterstone since June of this year and the incident you experienced has been the only one I??m aware of, again, I did not lie to you. -Additionally, Waterstone keeps a notebook of the resident correspondence related to crimes in our community. These letters represent serious criminal activity, that we are aware of, that has occurred in this community. This may not represent all criminal activity. For detailed and comprehensive criminal statistics we encourage you to contact the local police station. -Please remove the paragraph regarding the Landscapers as it is a bad faith allegation against them and uncalled for. I also ask you to remove the paragraph about the construction of the community as it too is incorrect. -This is a very serious matter and if you indeed fear for your life you should be in daily communication with me until we are able to come to a resolution. As I stated before it is my goal as the Property Manager to provide you with a pleasant and enjoyable apartment home. I had high hopes of resolving your concerns privately and to everyone??s satisfaction. -As the Property Manager it is always my goal to provide everyone with a pleasant and enjoyable apartment home. It appears by your words I have failed you and I ask for the opportunity to rectify the situation. Thank you. Waterstone Manager
