I've lived in a 2-bedroom for two months now and I have a feel for this place. Sure, the complex is old, so the apartments are small and...rustic. If you want shiny counters and bright new fixtures (or for that matter, nice appliances) forget about it. But if you can make do with fair-to-decent appliances (bring your own microwave, these don't come with)and tiny, functional bathrooms, then this is definitely a place that's affordable, given the location, location, location, which is IDEAL. You are a hop, skip and a jump from Mopac, 183, 360 and from those to 35, 290, and basically every other major artery. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, although yes, the walls are THIN, so opt for an upper level if you can get one (plus the vaulted ceilings and fire places make a huge difference)and hope you don't get a noisy neighbor--that's just the luck of the draw. If you want three inch concrete between the walls, find a place with condo specs, it's just that simple. The place I lived in before had that, and it cost me $1,410 in this neighborhood. It had lovely appliances and counter-tops, too, but I'm paying $900 now. The model IS misleading (it's on the 3rd floor, take notice of that). The only other major bummer is that the water pressure is very weak, but I've never had a problem with the hot water, so it seems they have fixed that. I can't find my water heater, so I guess I must share one with another apartment(s). The milieu (creekside) is really nice, but sometimes backing out of a parking space is a little cramped, and I drive a compact car. This is definitely NOT the worst apartment I've lived in in Austin, but it IS the best location I've lived in.
