Poor management and Poor workmanship/maintenance

I would like to share my experience. I just moved in to Westdale Pointe on Jun 2, 2006. There are a lot of issues found at the same day when I moved it. I should have seen the actual apartment before I submitted my application form and paid my fees. Unfortunately, the apartment management didn't allow me to see the actual one at them I paid for the application/admin fees because they claimed that they could not show anyone to the apartment unit when it was not ready. When I moved in, they claimed that everything should be ready and clean! To see what it turned out when I move in:
Unwanted *Guests*: I have been living in that apartment (Westdale Pointe at 7117 Wood Hollow Dr., Austin, TX78731) for 14 days. I see cockroaches and spiders every day running around the apartment. I spray it every day as well. No idea how soon the apartment pet control will come in.
Musty Odor: Such odor is everywhere in the apartment. I put a lot of deodorizers in the rooms, closets, bathrooms and even kitchen, and clean all the carpet, walls, everything I can but all in vail. The apartment management just does nothing about it and just told me that the one I just rented has been more than 6 months nobody living in. In sum, it is not an excuse for that odor if the apartment is well-maintained. Anyway, it is difficult to stay inside the house with or without the windows open! This odor is even worse especially when it is night time I need to close all windows/patio for sleep. Right now, I am trying to use vinegar to eliminate that musty odor and am not sure if it will work and how long it will last.
Clean before moving in: It is my first time to do the cleaning before I can move in an apartment. It seems like I was moving out - I can see how bad the maintainence in that apartment is.
Slow/Never Maintenance Response: I have some other minor issues in that apartment and have also made requests to the management for repair. The answer is that they don't know how soon the maintenance team will work on it. It sounds like that the management job is to issue job orders and the rest - they don't care. The management is no control of the maintenance. It has been 14 days including today that I am living there. The management is still unable to give me the approximate time when the issues could be done. They said that it is inappropriate for them to say when the job could be done if eventually they cannot do it. I just wonder if anyone out there like me *mistreated* by the apartment management. I could not understand why 14 days is not a reasonable time for them to do repair - some are not even a repair, just simply giving the resident a missing screen! In sum, they just ignore me whenever I come :(
I hope everyone here has a better luck than me when you're looking for an apartment. Remember to visit the unit that you rent before signing or paying anything if you can. Good luck on your apartment hunting!
