I lived at this apartment complex for almost 2 years (2000-2002) and just recently moved back there this year (2004). It's not that bad. Some of these reviews sound like random individual bad experiences that could happen in other complexes, too. They recently got new management and leasing agents and things are much better now. There were a lot of things that needed to be fixed in my apartment when I moved in because it had been empty for a long time, but everything got fixed within a day or two of me turning in the maintenance request. The whole time I've lived there, whenever you turn in a maintenance request, they get it fixed right away.
The floor plans here are great, and most of the apartments have outside storage with lots of room and big patios. While the appliances aren't new, they aren't run down either. You do get what you pay for, so if you want everything to be brand new and have access gates and covered parking, you gotta move somewhere else and pay more. That's how it works everywhere.
Compared to almost every other complex I've lived in, this one is very quiet. I never hear my neighbors (at first I even thought I didn't have any neighbors, but I do).
South Austin isn't the safest area, and that's just a city problem, not the apartment complex. Car break-ins and apartment break-ins have been happening all over South Austin, especially within the last 6-12 months, so it's not just in this complex.
Considering the rent at this complex, it's a great place, and compared to other complexes who rent at the same rates (e.g., North Austin - Anderson Lane, Rundberg, Rutland, Cameron Road, etc.), this one gives you more space and is definitely safer than those North Austin areas.
