There are better places to live...

My Wife and I lived at Wind River for a year. We chose Wind River because of the location in Northwest Austin and the price. The office staff was very helpful before we signed the lease. They even offered a free washer and dryer as part of the deal. Once we moved in everything changed. The washer and dryer that were supposed to be installed before we moved in were not delivered for a month.
The apartments are old and not well maintained. The cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms were in desperate need of replacement. The carpets were cleaned before we moved in but over the course of our stay all of the previous stains rose back to the surface. We even borrowed a steam cleaner and cleaned all of the carpets ourselves several times in an attempt to remove the old stains.
Maintenance problems were commonplace. Our dishwasher did not work properly for about 4 months. We had to start reporting the problem on a daily basis in order to get any work done. They finally replaced the dishwasher after we had been there for 5 months. We went for about a month without a functioning toilet in one bathroom and a broken shower in the other. The only way to get anything fixed was to report the problem everyday.
The office staff was not helpful. They were more concerned with helping prospective residents than keeping the ones they already had.
The parking situation is awful. There is not enough parking for the number of residents at the complex.
Security also became an issue while we were at Wind River. One of the residents was raped in her apartment. The office staff posted a few fliers but took no noticeable action to improve security on the grounds. A few more lights would have gone a long way to increase safety at the complex.
The Fitness Center was small and only had a few pieces of equipment, several of which were broken.
Wind River is not a bad complex if you like the price and donýt mind putting up with all of the issues. However, if you can afford an extra $100 or so a month on rent there are many better places to live.
