My husband and I moved into the standard 1/1 the summer of 2003, and we moved into the bigger 2/1 (bedroom, study, bigger bathroom) September 2005.
We love this place because of the trees, NO gate (if you read reviews of places with gates, you'll learn that they aren't effective and are therefore just a hassle), large balcony (our cats love it), awesome floorplans, responsive maintenance people, and competent management.
I didn't like Steve, the assistant manager at first, but as I've come to know him a little more the past 2 1/2 years, I like him. He's just a little old-fashioned.
Even though Woodmeade isn't managed by the owners, it's not part of a huge corporation that owns several other properties and only cares about making the "clubhouse" look good. I've lived in one of those places that heavily advertised their clubhouse, pool, gym, tennis courts, etc., and I hated it because it was impersonal. All of the money was poured into those amenities, which increased the rent, and the maintenance of the buildings and apartments was neglected.
We like that the other tenants here are mature and not loud.
I read in previous reviews that if you live on the 1st or 2nd floor, then you can easily hear your upstairs neighbors. I wouldn't know because we always lived on the top floor, but we have also always made a conscious effort to walk gently. We can hear a certain neighbor downstairs coughing a lot (smoker' sick'), but we can easily tune it out. You get the standard city noises here that you would get anywhere.
We've lost water for a few hours on 3 separate occasions, but the utility workers were on-site right away, and the water was back on quickly.
We've never had problems with parking.
Cars have been broken into. But, cars are broken into all over Austin. North, Central, South, East, West. Every single area has break-ins.
This area of Wickersham Ln and Oltorf is quiet and sort of out-of-the-way.
We now pay $605 for 967 sq ft. That's a ridiculously good price.
Woodmeade is relatively old (built in the 80s). But that means there are lots of great trees, shade, and character, unlike at other complexes where they bulldoze all the vegetation and put up huge buildings with no relief from the heat in summer.
