Woodmeade has been sold to The Lynd Company (http://www.lyndweb.com). At first residents, myself included were excited about this to some degree, having been promised many positive enhancements to the complex. This turned out to be a front for Lynd's profit motive. Residents were recently informed that cosigners would no longer be honored, which coupled with a fairly large rent increase, effectively removes students from the complex. If your able to work 40 hours a week and also attend school full time, more power to you, but for most individuals, this is too much, and anything short of a decent full time job will fail to meet the 3x rent monthly income rule. A glossy coat of paint will not cover up the fact that a uncaring corporation has taken over a formerly independently run complex that many of us have called home for a long time.
On a lesser note, since the new "management" has taken control of the grounds, we've seen our pools turn into swamps, locked around the clock now. Our maintenance staff has been reduced to unacceptable levels... and we're paying more for this'
At one point, Woodmeade was the best deal in Austin, run by friendly, competant individuals and populated by a cross section of tenants who truly felt lucky to call it their home. This is changing for the worse on almost a day-by-day basis. As a long term resident here, being ousted by the new rules, I'm offended, sad and yes, I do have a grudge. This said, I still hope you take these changes into serious consideration before deciding to move here. The wonderful place that has gained so many excellent reviews on this site in the past years is turning into a faded memory.

I agree and this will be my last year here thanks to the Lynd Company taking over. I too have been a happy resident since 2004.

Wow.. I was excited when I saw the 84 % rating until I read this review. I'm moving from Seattle, so the last thing I want is to get involved with a place like this. Thanks for the heads up.

FYI - Rebecca told me that it was the last owner who raised the rents for all of us, not the Lynd company. I have lived here for 4 years, and it has been a wonderful place, but I will probably have to move also. I live on the third floor and my highest utility bill last year was $130, but now they are going to start charging us for water & waste. I have been told that could add about $40 to the monthly bill. This is an older complex which is lovely with the trees, but it is not very energy efficient. Better deals are had elsewhere, I have already been looking for another place.

I COMPLETELY agree. I've lived here at Woodmeade since 2004, and ever since The Lynd Company took over it's been a nightmare. Not only have they repainted the apartments the crapiest colors, the contractors they have hired to do the "so called renovations" have done a horrible job. The paint job looks ok from far away, up close it's sloppy splattered paint on the sliding doors and patio floors. They "re-welded" the balcony rails and did such a rush on it that it has more likely made it UNSAFE. Overall, this place is not what it used to be. The Lynd Company is trying to make it something it isn't and should never be....a typical large corporate-run apartment complex. My lease ends in a few months and I'm getting the hell out of here fast. I'm extremely disappointed and DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE to move here. TRUST ME ON THIS.

I think all of us long term residents can agree, it's a very sad turn of events. This was home to a great group of tenants, and a true gem in an area of Austin where the average apartment, to be frank, sucks. The people who made it like a home are leaving in droves, either forced out by rent increases, the refusal to accept co-signers or any number of other aspects that have quite simply gone down the tubes since Lynd came into control.
I'll always remember the better days, and the friends I've made here, however I can't say I don't look forward to our final day here, when I can forget the damage done to the place in the last couple months and move on to a better complex.

How saddened I am to read these posts. I lived at Woodmeade a few years ago and just LOVED IT!! Even though the buildings were terribly old and made out of wood (which lets you hear everything), the apartments were cute, had a HUGE garden tub and the best patio/balcony I think I'll ever have. I really liked the office staff and it was very, very affordable. I was always sad that I had moved away, but it looks like I got out just in time.

I lived at Woodmeade in 2000 and loved my apartment. It was affordable, safe, and had tons of character. The maintenance guys and management, except Steve, were cool and down to earth. I am so sad to see it go downhill based on the comments current residents have made.I thought about moving back, but I'm trusting my gut on this one.
