Enjoyable place to live

My roommate and I have had an average experience in the apartment process, like at any other place. Being first time apartment leasors, we were not educated to how to handle managers. We were somehow convinced into renting it a month earlier than our earliest requested date. We also did not do a proper run-through before signing the lease (so there were several things wrong with the place - dirty kitchen, broken screen door, etc).

HOWEVER

The major things that were wrong were promptly fixed, the screen door before we actually moved in, they came and exterminated twice for us, cleaned the kitchen (somewhat, it still looks pretty gross in the crevices like between the fridge and counter, but not sure if thats just impossible to clean), and so forth. The maintenance guy is polite and always knocks before coming in, fixes things quickly, cleans up whatever mess, and locks up after himself.

Plus, living here is such a pleasure. The place is big, a nice two-story, really close to campus - my roommate and I both bike or walk to school every day, really close to 35 and congress, and its quiet. The people who live here aren't dumb fratty kids, partying till odd hours. They are families, students, friends. The place is also built well, unlike those places down Riverside where they were built in a day and have wall thin as paper. They allow cats here, and I just adopted a cute little kitten. My room is the larger room, it has its own half bath, large mirror and sink, HUGE closet. I mean, not just a walk in, but a HUGE walk in. My roommates room is a bit smaller and doesn't have as high ceilings as mine, and her closet is much smaller (but reasonable) but its a normal size - no closets here. We have a utility closet downstairs with capabilities for a washer dryer. We don't have a washer dryer, but the laundry room is a few feet away, under the managers office.

There are still some things wrong, like her closet door is too small for her closet opening, my room door is too long so it drags on the carpet and requires some effort to open and close, they painted all the exposed wood without sanding it, so the latex paint is peeling off, etc.

Overall, I feel safe here, like the location, like how quiet it is, its cute, older but solid, and a good place to live.
