Complex sends mixed message, bad service.

We?ve lived at Wyndhaven for almost two full years now and are not planning to renew on our upcoming lease expiration. We?re looking elsewhere. Here?s why:

- Recent installation of Wal-Mart-style parking lot floodlamps changes apt. complex from pleasant, orange-lit community at night to a bright white parking lot. Sure, it?s more secure I guess, but at what cost in aesthetics' Why not install a nicer light that matches the orange street lamps and even the other orange lamps in the complex' And why are they buying giant 1 gazillion candlewatt floodlights for the parking lot while hallways in the apartment buildings have had burned-out lights for months'

- Takes 4 weeks on average to get maintenance to come look at something and often they either don?t fix or claim they can?t find anything wrong, even after they?ve admitted there?s something wrong. Things that do get fixed are usually done poorly and half-assed ... and I used to work in construction, so I know the difference between a "good" repair and a "quick" repair. Example: Screen door was blown off in a windstorm and the frame was bent pretty severely -- maintenance re-bent the frame back into an okay shape and jammed it back onto the rails, instead of replacing with a new screen door.

- Mixed message from administration. They seem to want this to be a "luxury" community, but they allow junked cars in the parking lot, cars with flats have sat in spaces for months, children leave toys in the hallways, parents leave trashbags in the hallways... no action is taken by administration. Gorgeous flowers that adorned the parking lot dividers when we moved in 1.5 years ago have recently been pulled up and replaced with gravel. Grass on the "outside" of the fence (where the apt. office is) is clearly higher quality and better kept than grass planted on the inside of the complex. Same for flowers and trees.

- Security gate is broken a lot of the time (for the last 3 months, it was TOTALLY broken since someone ran over the control box and the complex took months to replace it). People who want to get into the complex who don?t know the code simply wait in the visitor parking area until a resident pulls in and then they follow them into the complex -- that?s not really "security" if you ask me -- why even bother with the charade of an annoying broken gate if it doesn?t really do anything'

I should note that up until about a year ago, we were EXTREMELY pleased with our apartment, despite the few maintenance problems we had had. We tend to be very forgiving about things as long as they?re eventually taken care of. But in the last 6-9 months, it seems like Wyndhaven has decided to start cutting corners, ignoring serious maintenance issues, and reducing the overall quality of the complex, even while increasing everyone?s rent. If you don?t care about your complex aesthetic and quality of living and just want a decent apartment at what may be a little overpriced rate, maybe this place is for you, but I don?t think it any longer deserves the moniker "Luxury Apartments." It?s become pretty average and, in many ways, a disappointing place to live. We?ll be moving on -- I?d rather take my money elsewhere.
