If you are looking for eye candy and a beautiful complex, there are not many in the area that can offer the looks of Shoal Creek. However, there are several that can offer a better overall value.
I lived at Shoal Creek from 2001-2003, so the management has changed since we stayed there, but it seems that the more things change...the more they stay the same.
We moved to Shoal Creek, because it had:
1. A three bedroom floorplan
2. Beautiful grounds
3. Safety features (security gates)
4. Ammenities (fitness room, hot tub, etc).
We moved out of Shoal Creek, because:
1. Extremely noisy neighbors (see below)
2. Safety features were overrated
3. Overpriced
4. Ammenities were overrated (see below)
5. Management was not responsive
Let me just share a few of my experiences which I believe will show how things may not have changed that much depsite new management.
We had a group of extremely LOUD young men living over us. They would play their music very loudly (which would have been more tolerable if they wouldn't wait until after 12am to do it). We also lived close to the pool with a balcony overlooking the jaccuzzi. While some noise is to be expected when living by a pool (especially in summer months), our neighbors upstairs liked to throw little private get togethers at about 2am in the hot tub. One morning, when one of their girly giggle-shriekers woke up my entire apartment (3 adults who had to go to work the next morning), we were treated to a little unexpected peek-a-boo as they had been in the hot tub completely NAKED. So gross considering I lived there for two years and never once saw the hot tub closed for cleaning/maintenance. When we complained that this was an ongoing problem and asked why the hot tub wasn't locked at night since the hours for use were clearly posted as being before 10pm, the management just shrugged and told us that they couldn't do anything. We asked them why they couldn't put a lock on, and they said that they would buy a lock and let us put it on every night if it was a problem for us. I am saddened to hear that no one has ever corrected this problem and that a young lady may have suffered as a result.
We also had an incident where dog poop was smeared on our front door. And I had an incident where someone put a full quart of oil underneath another person's car tire (parked beside me), and the other person ran over the quart of oil getting it all over my car. The person who ran over the oil didn't bother to so much as leave a note, and it cost over $100 to get it professionally cleaned.
As for the safety features...well, the gate was not closed much of the time and the code for getting in never changed once during the year and a half we lived there. There was also an incident involving people breaking into the post office boxes while we were there.
We decided to leave Shoal Creek when we no longer needed a three bedroom apartment, and I've never regretted that decision.
I have a co-worker who lives here now, and she does not seem to have the same problems we had (though I understand the management, though different, is still not very responsive). My co-worker pays about $200.00 more per month for her rent that we do and has a much smaller kitchen about at least 200 sq. feet less room than we have now.
I would only recommend Shoal Creek for those who will use the ammenities offered, have plenty of money, and who find it important to have a "good looking" place.

You obvisously have nothing better to do with your time than to post such negative responses about a community that you haven't lived at since 2002. Get at life. I live here and I love it.

To User Response by brooke00: You obvisously have nothing better to do with your time than to post in response to things that some people take seriously. Maybe you live here and enjoy it because you are one of the girly giggle-shriekers that wake up people at 2am... or did you not know that there has actually been a female assaulted on-property in one of the hot tubs (far from the only criminal activity on-site, as the PD records will show). |
