Relatively pleased so far

I've been in my apartment since July of this year, and overall I've been pretty pleased. I worked with Brittany when I originally leased my unit and she was friendly to me, so I have no problems with her. I did have a small issue when I moved in with another employee about a promise that was made to me that wasn't upheld, but I pressed, and it was quickly resolved. I've also written emails to corporate Colonial Properties about the trash compactor situation, as it fills up quickly and people begin leaving their trash on the ground, which spills out and makes a mess. The corporate office contacted the leasing office, who called me back the same day and told me they too noticed the problem, and had arranged a solution. I was also told the property is considering curbside pickup, so that may appease those who live far from the compactor, which I agree is probably a pain.

My apartment is in the front of the complex, and while I do hear the noise of the office renovations in the morning, it's otherwise very quiet. My neighbors are nice, the property around me is kept clean, and I have a view of the creek, which I suppose shields me from street noise.

As far as parking, I heard tales of parking woes in almost every apartment complex that I visited before I moved here, that's why I pay for a covered space. However I agree that the garage prices are a bit high, but no higher than other complexes. Uncovered spaces do get crowded, and if you get home after 7pm, it seems like you'll be hunting for a space.

The one complaint that I haven't had resolved yet is that I have yet to be able to get a remote or key card for the gate, which prevents me from entering from the back of the complex. I was told they won't have any until the office renovations are complete. It's been 4 months, and office renovations seem to be more elaborate than I thought. I moved in before office renovations even started, so I feel like someone could have grabbed a remote out of the box before they were packed up and stored away...if that's the issue.

Overall however, for an apartment experience, this place has been the best so far, and if the rent doesn't shoot up too much come renewal time, then I plan to stay. :o)

Update: 5/7/08
I have to say that overall, I am still pleased with my experience. I've not had any major bugs in my apartment, the property around me is always clean, and, since I pay for a covered space, I haven't had any issues with parking.

One negative that has arisen, is the fact that my new upstairs neighbors are apparently morbidly obese river dancers who can only practice between 2am and 5am (I actually thought someone was being beaten and mistakenly called the police to investigate...that's how loud they are). However, I spoke to Candi and Brittany, and wrote complaints and they addressed the situation.

Unfortunately, I will be moving when my lease is up, but this is because I need more space, and there is another Colonial property offering free moves to the size unit I need, as well as covered parking included in the rent price, and a cheaper pet deposit (half the cost, actually). If I could get as good a deal at Shoal Creek, I would stay, it's been great for me so far!!

If they really valued your business, they would work to keep you on the property. If the cheaper property you are considering is Grayson Village in Grapevine, you are getting just that, a cheaper much older property. If Colonial cannot take care of this newer, nicer property at Shoal Creek, they will be horrible at an older property. Good luck!
