like living in a rail yard

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I had a most poor experience at the Pont Alba apartments, as have most of my neighbors (or so it would seem). The complex is very old and has suffered years of neglect, though the new property manager (as of 2/04) seems intent to turn things around. The buildings are in disrepair, with a serious mold problem (that management continually denies exists), water leaks, poor carpentry (cabinet and closet doors won't close all the way), terrible water pressure, and wild fluctuations in water temperature (shower temps swing from scalding hot to heart-stopping cold in a matter of one or two seconds and sinks sometimes time three to four minutes to get any hot water at all). There are also a multitude of speed bumps in the parking lot (very bad for your car over a long period of time) and a terrible lack of guest parking. Perhaps the worst feature of the whole complex is the proximity to the major Southern Pacific rail road line running north-south between West U and Bellaire. With up to 48 trains a day coming through, on average (according to SPRR), I hope you can learn to read the lips of the people on TV and sleep through a rumbling loud enough to set car alarms off (literally). Oh, and one last thing. Because the complex uses a chiller system for their heating and air conditioning you don't get to chose whether you want heat or air, you just have to live with what they give you. On top of that the air is not de-humidified, so I hope you have dry skin.
On a positive note, the neighbors are wonderful with a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
