When my husband and I moved to Brownsville, we looked on line for a nice place to live with our two dogs. We liked what we saw online and decided to make this our temporary home while our new home was being built. When we finally signed our lease and moved in, we did not get a copy of the lease because the copier was broken. One week in our new apartment, I came home from work to realize that in this town, unlike the one we moved from, we had to make the necessary arrangements to have our electricity connected. To my surprise, we had a notice from La Mansion that we needed to get the Brownsville PUB transferred to my name or it would be disconnected. Apparently this information was in the lease agreement that we were never given a copy of due to the copy machine being broken. We were not notified until the threat of the disconnection of our service was left on our door. We then had a problem with a nosey neighbor that wanted to 'chat' and have our dogs play together. We had no desire to do either. We kept getting harrased by the management and they told us that neighbors were complaining that we had a chow (that is really a mutt w/curly chow like tail) and a pitbull. Nowhere on the lease did it forbid any breed of canine. The management even went to the extreme to ask that we take our dogs to a vet to have a test done at our cost to determine if they were in fact full breed chow and pitbull! When we declined the management staff called the vet that vaccinated our pets (a copy of the vaccination report was required prior to them being allowed in the complex) and asked the staff of the vet clinic if they believed our dogs to be both a full breed chow and pitbull. The vet staff refused to entertain this request for information and contacted both my husband and I and informed us of this request by the staff of the complex. Soon after, we found out La Mansion had hosted an open house for the residents when we found a flier in the parking lot after they passed out invitations. We were not invited to attend because in the flier it stated that 'you are welcome to bring your pets'. I think they made breed restrictions after that. Everytime we spoke to the manager, she was never neutral or wanted our 'side'. They were always difficult to deal with and was accusatory. Thankfully, our home construction was completed along with a custom dog door that we currently live in and love. Having a job that moves us around quite a bit, both my husband and I have lived in several apartment complexes in the past. This is one we would never be able to recommend to anyone. Privacy is not an option at this place.
