Not too shabby

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
We moved to Brownwood from out of state and went to Rainforest apartments first. They were full, but the woman there recommended us to her friend--the manager at Camelot. We had an apartment that was very clean and ready to go in about two days and were moved-in in less than a week.
The rent is excellent--for a two-bedroom, one and a half bath, it costs us about $500/mo including utilities (electricity). We replaced all the lightbulbs in the house with 15W energy-saver bulbs and insulated the doors and windows (the apartment is very poorly insulated and the landlady did say she was looking into replacing all the windows in the complex--the gap in the door was about 1/2" and the window panes were very loose, about 1/4" gap in them)--this saved us a lot of money as our electric bill is about $80/mo in the summer when we're running the central air full blast. It's my understanding that electricity is divided among tenants based on the amount of electricity being used in any one complex.
The first week that we were there, maintenance came by a few times just to check up on things. They replaced our a/c filter and a few of the window blinds without request, which was very nice. They also gave us some spare hardware (screws, nails) so we could hang some stuff. They came in and caulked up some holes where the old tenants had hung window coverings and also offered to hang our curtains for us. Maintenance is great. If you call for maintenance, you will not wait more than a day for them to show, and they do a great job. It's a husband/wife team who live in the apartments.
I have not had any trouble parking there--there are plenty of parking spaces to go around. The only parking problem I have is that my car gets covered in bird crap if I park under a tree for more than 20 minutes, which you do have to do sometimes when hail storms are threatening.
Noise levels were very low. Occasionally you'd hear some knocking around next door, but that was rare. I never heard any talking or...cuddling.
The only real problem is that the apartment complex is about 30 years old. The decor is outdated (floral wallpaper in bathrooms, ugly cabinets, rusty sink fixtures). A big problem which I am sure the landlady is taking care of is that the outlets are not grounded! When we plug stuff in the outlets spark. One guy woke up around 2am to find his couch on fire and the fire marshall said it was not his fault, it was the landlady's for not replacing the outlets. Last I heard she was replacing his furniture and getting some electricians together.
But it really is a good deal for the money, and the lease we got is six-months leaving options wide open.
Wish there were pets allowed, though.
Oh, and laundry is $1 wash and $1 dry, so make sure you have loads of quarters because they have the facility on the premises, but no change machine!
Oh, and there are a couple of in-ground swimming pools with plenty of lounge chairs to go around.
