Low quality with too many problems

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009

I lived at Reveille Ranch for two years (the second because my roommate and I started looking for a new place too late). Upon entering the apartment, I was immediately disappointed. When I moved in, there was only one tenant currently renting (but not there for a week or so) and three empty rooms; none of these rooms were sufficiently cleaned (it looked as though someone had hurriedly painted over a couple of spots and might have vacuumed the carpet, which should have been steam-cleaned). The kitchen was dirty as well as the living room. Again, the carpet needed to be steam-cleaned and the wall needs to be redone; some parts of the walls looked as though water had been leaking down for quite some time. All of this went into my initial inspection that was supposed to be completed. The design of the apartments (at least our four-bed one) was poorly designed in that there was a long, winding hallway leading to the back three rooms; this wastes a lot of the square footage that is stated on their site. We dealt with problems throughout the stay including maintenance, fees, etc. Maintenance would sometimes take more than a week to fix a simple problem. Electricity was a huge pain; you must pre-pay for electricity, which is a problem if one roommate forgets or refuses to pay. Most residents in the complex are sophomores/juniors in college and do not need to be treated like children. Our electricity box never quite worked, and they never could fix it, sometimes without letting us know the amount of electricity remaining. Jamespoint tried to implement a trash fine to apartments that left trash outside their doors, which was a good idea, but our room was charged over $100 for trash we didn't leave (we had to tell them many times that it wasn't ours and they finally removed the fine). The A/C of our apartment had problems, and for B/CS that is a big problem, in that it worked well for the living room/first bedroom and worked progressively less towards the back of the apartment, with the last room getting little to no air. Our apartment was supposed to be renovated during the early spring of 2009 with new carpet and linoleum, but was never accomplished. Since they were supposed to renovate, we were told that we did not have to clean our apartment like the newer ones; when we left our apartment, we were each charged $450 (for about $1800 total) to clean. I guess we should have kept proof of them telling us that we would not have to clean, but I guess we were naive in thinking that they would keep to their word. (I think the $1800 or so should sufficiently pay for the majority of the renovations and cleaning costs for them, so lucky them.)

Parking at our building was actually fairly good because we were on one side of the complex. This gave the tenants more than enough parking space, and there were many visitors spots directly beside our building. The parking seemed to be fairly well lit, but not great.

The complex itself was sufficiently nice but nothing extraordinary; there were always parts of buildings that needed to be repainted, fixed or cleaned. The mailboxes were located in the center of the complex; there were a few times I received some larger packages that had to be kept in the office, and when I went to retrieve them, they kept telling me that they probably hadn't arrived. I just had to keep bothering them until they would finally search and find the package. The office staff was never too helpful or kind. The basketball court seemed to be well lit even at night, although the neighboring complex kids were usually there at that time. The sand volleyball courts were poorly kept, usually until the time when new tenants would be coming to look at the property. The pool was nice; my only complaint with it was that after pool parties, most Thursdays, that beer cans and trash would not be picked up by staff until Friday afternoon sometimes. The pool parties were nice to an extent, though, because of the free food/drinks that were sometimes offered.

Overall, the quality of the apartments is poor, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have actually recommended AGAINST this complex to many people I have met. Find another apartment; if you do not need a pool and workout room, both of which are close with the recreation center anyways, find a real apartment or duplex; I have found a house recently that is 10X nicer than these apartments and I will actually be saving $100 per month with rent and utilities. (I think what made it the worst was the last $450 fine.)
