Don't recommend living here.

When I first viewed the apartment, I thought it was beautiful. I signed the lease and moved in. I thought that I was getting a new lease on life here. I had just been through battling breast cancer with surgery, chemo and radiation. When I moved in, I practically had no hair.
Then the bad part. I moved in. I started unpacking and putting things away and to my disgust, I found hair all in the microwave, refrigerator, kitchen cabinets and stove. If that wasn't bad enough, I was in the shower and when I looked up I noticed hair all over the bathroom tiles. Also, I felt that the carpet was never cleaned. It had spots all over it. It looked filthy.
I didn't complain about this because I did not want to make waves being a new tenant. So I went through and cleaned everything up. The next person who moves in #302 can be thankful that they don't have all that hair to walk into. I also thought that if they brought someone in to clean it up, they probably would not have done as good of a job as I did so I just did it myself.
Everything was going fine after that until the hose broke on my washer while I was at work. My apartment and the apartment down stairs got flooded. I had renters insurance and they covered the apartment down stairs. However, Ballantrae hits me with a $378 bill. The explanation' I was to pay for overtime hours the maintenance guy put in to help clean up the mess. If you are going to live in this apartment complex (I pray that you never do), then go to Home Depot and get a leak proof hose for the washer. Management won't tell you to do it. I didn't know there was such a thing. This would not have happened if MANAGEMENT would insist that everyone gets a leak proof hose. I was told by the maintenance guy that I'm not the only tenant that this has happened to.
After all of that, they never replaced the carpet. Not mine or the neighbor down stairs. I had to live with that filthy carpet that I could not stand. I complained about it with a letter and management never apologized nor did they ever come and clean it up. The carpet was literally falling apart.
Just after that mess, I was in a hit and run accident right in front of the apartments. The accident was not my fault and it was not the management's fault either. But, before I signed the lease I said that I was nervous about that intersection. Dana told me that I didn't have anything to worry about; they've never had an accident there. Well that accident left me with a broken finger and 6 screws in my finger. It also left me with a neurological disease call Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). If you don't know what it is, you should look it up. You can get it just from spraining your ankle. There is no cure for it either. The only thing they can do for it is give you ganglion block shots which are not pleasant. You have to go to outpatient surgery and get put to sleep to get the shots. I get them every other week and have to take a day off of work to get them. Luckily, I have a mild case of it. It could have been worse, this disease can spread throughout your body and it is very painful.
Well after all of that, during Christmas time, I was making out the bills with a cast on my left hand after the accident. By the way, management knew it was me who had the accident. When I made out the rent bill which was $905 a month (the most I've ever paid for an apartment and the filthiest apartment I have ever lived in) I mistankenly did not sign the check. It was an honest mistake. What can I say' I'm trying to make out my bills with a full cast on my left hand. Three weeks later I was told that I didn't sign the check. Dana said that the check was on my front door. I apologized and immediately made out another check and gave it to her signed. When I opened the letter with the unsigned check, there was a note saying that I have to pay a $52.00 late charge. This took the cake. Now it meant war. After everything I had been through and to get this nasty note for an honest mistake. Living with this filthy carpet and still making payments for the $378 for the broken hose, I was furious. How dare they come back at me 3 weeks later and tell me that I didn't sign the check and then put a late charge on top of it. Why did they not tell me 3 weeks earlier when I first gave them the check' That would have avoided the $52.00 late charge. I would have gladly signed the check.
After all of this, I gave my written notice way before my lease was up. I gave a 5 month written notice. That is how much I wanted to get out of there. I have lived in so many apartments and have NEVER experienced what I have here. This is uncalled for.
When I gave my notice, I was in the office and they were talking to someone who was looking for a place to rent. I told the person to make sure that they go to Home Depot and buy a leak proof hose for their washer because mine broke flooded the apartment and I was charged for it. I also told him to be very careful about the intersection in front of the apartments that I had an accident there and I was left with a none curable disease from it. MANAGEMENT told me that I was being rude. Rude' to tell someone that they need to buy a leak proof hose which should be their job' And to be careful of the intersection' That's rude' Excuse me MANAGEMENT. I know that you are reading this because I know that you responded to all of the No reviews in this website trying to make excuses for yourself. Trying to make the tenant look bad instead of you.
Because MANAGEMENT said that I was so rude, Dana said that she was going to give me a bad review when someone calls asking how I was as a tenant. I told her go ahead. In the end, they are going to take my money and that is what counts to them.
Well Dana, I live in a beautiful apartment now. They were just built and I don't have to walk into someone else's filth. And MANAGEMENT here is wonderful. You should see these apartments.
The electric bills were sky high at Ballantrae. I was paying $300 and $400 a month bills. I did make sure that every light was turned off before I left for work. I did make sure that the fans were blowing and the shutters where shut in the summer time and that the shutters were opened and fans were off during the winter time. I did everything I could to conserve on electricity and still I had incredible bills.
One time during the winter time, I was freezing to death. The heat would not shut off. I contacted maintenance the next day. Turned out that I had a heating element out and they had to replace it. I paid dearly on the next month electric bill for that.
Then when it started getting hot, I turned on the air. Water started leaking from the compressor. Then, the ceiling caved in over the bath tub. Too bad I wasn't in the bath tub at the time. I would have sued the pants off of Ballantrae as furious as I am with them.
There is absolutely no insulation in these apartments. It is either too cold in the winter time or too hot in the summer time. It is never comfortable in these apartments.
After all of this fiasco, I am now living in my beautiful apartment. I then go to the mailbox and get a bill from Ballantrae. It says that I have a rent due of $253.74 and that my $175.00 deposit is paying for some of that. But I am left with a $78.74 balance due. Then they have the audacity to threaten me by saying that if I don't pay it within 30 days, they are going to ruin my credit.
After getting that bill, I left several messages and even went into the office and told them that I am going to smear their name all over the internet. I can be just as much of a ----- and they are.
Go ahead Dana, BJ and Helen. What have you got to say about this review' BJ told me that I have no respect for them. No respect for them' What about respect for the tenant who pays. I know that you either get a deep discount on your rent or you pay no rent at all because you work there. I PAID!!!!!!!
By the way, I hated the breezeways. Have you ever cleaned them' They are filthy. Do you not see dirt' There are spider webs everywhere. CLEAN THEM UP.
Oh yes. I am a computer programmer. I know how to copy and paste. I will be copying and pasting this review and sending it out to all of the apartment locaters.

hey sweetie---I'm the good guy. I'm the one that was on your side, remember??? I'm the one they fired because my husband made an off the wall remark to maintenance WHILE I WAS IN FLORIDA ATTENDING MY MOTHER'S FUNERAL!!!!!!!I'M the one Dana blames for all these "no's". I don't have enough time or energy to play games. I proved where the slander was coming from in black and white. Only to have Dana say I was too stupid to know an IP address! She has the ones around her that are "yes mam, no mam" so she is happy. She has Gary right where she wants him. And Ballantrae is slowly falling down further. Your right, they have no managment, they only lie, cheat, and steal if necessary to get you in then your on your own. I am proud that you found a nice place.

this is hilarious! I hated that place. I sure hope people read these reviews and NEVER GO TO THE APARTMENT! It truly was the worst of the worst. Gross, filthy, and the old ladies in the office need to be fired for how they treat others!

This is the saddest thing I've ever read. You install your washer, and it leaks -- your fault. You didn't sign your check -- your fault. You got in an accident ON PUBLIC PROPERTY -- your fault. I just think you are an unhappy person who insists on blaming others. My guess is that you have similar problems with every other person in your life. A locator recommended this place to me, and your review WILL NOT prevent me from touring and probably leasing there. You only make yourself look ridiculous.

I have not been back to this review since I wrote it almost two years ago. The user jkatcher from 02/02/2008 probably moved in. Well I wonder how he/she feels about the place now.
I am still living in the apartment that I moved in after I lived in this place and am very happy where I am living. They have two people who live on the property who clean up the place and keep it maintained.
It is my fault for the hit and run accident? I don't think so, it was the other guys fault idiot jkatcher. I hope you are just as unhappy as I was living in that filthy place.
By the way, when I was making out that check that I forgot to sign, I was on my way out the door to my painful phsical therapy I was getting for surgery I had for breast cancer. Another thing that Dana and her friends didn't care about.
You are a complete idiot jkatcher.

This story makes me sad and i know that it is very TRUE! I had A LOT of porblems with the crappy management. Dana and BJ are complete LIARS and scam people out of money! and the 90 year old maintenance man used the N word in front of me 3 times. I have zero respect for this place and the people who work there. We did get our deposit back, however we were verbally threatened and called "liars" and laughed at by Dana and BJ while resulting a messy move out. The carpets were old and dirty when we moved in, and we were told that they wouldn't replace carpets between tenats. This is gross and un-sanitary for your next tenant. Our electric bill in the summer was always over $300 and we were told that we had to go through TXU..... this is not true! Don't believe anything these people tell you.
The neighbors are nice, but the dogs bark all f'n night. This prop allows big dogs and with big dogs comes big poop that people do not normally clean up. I hate dogs and i hated that we moved into a property who alows big dogs. I would bet money that jkatcher no longer lives there. If she does she must be a chain smoking, leather skinned, old bitter b**** like the ladies who work here.
I will say that Louise was nice to talk with and was the only one in this office who listened to the tenants and got things done. Thank you Louise.
I could go on and on about the way we were treated here, and i just want to warn anyone who thinks about moving in. The rent is high and there are a lot of nice apt in the area. Take the time to do research so you don't run into a mistake like this place!
