NEW REVIEW WRITTEN ON 1/7/05:
Since I originally wrote this review in October, the management has changed...and for the better. The new manager actually follows up with maintenance requests and will call you to see how things are. The old manager and office staff left the new manager with numerous problems to follow up on. As soon as she was aware of my window, they were there the following week with the regional maintenance manager to fix everything. They are even working with me to fix the damage my dog has left. The old manager told me that my window was the builder's problem. The new manager said that was a lie, it was their problem. I would have never re-signed with the old manager, but I am so thrilled with the new office staff that I did re-sign my lease. The last time I talked to the old assistant manager (in late November), she treated me like I was an idiot and hung up on me. I found out about a month or so later, the new manager...well, no longer needed her services.
As far as some of the more recent reviews of this place, I would like to address those issues. I live at the very back. There is plenty of parking there, they have added a new dumpster, and bugs and snakes are a given if you live on the first floor on a golf course in a recently developed area. You can't expect to mow over farm land and have all the little critters just disappear. My parents happen to live in the same neighborhood (a really nice one, might I add) and have the same problems with bugs and snakes. Sometimes, bug issues can be resolved on one's own. Don't let them take over. Also, hearing your neighbors is a way of life in apartments. I rarely hear mine (although on some occassions, I do) but anyone with half a brain and who has lived in an apartment before, should expect to hear their neighbors. Get over it, you can't always have silence and I'll bet your neighbors can hear you sometimes.
That's all. I am changing my original review to a more positive one.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE POSTED IN OCTOBER:
Let me start by saying that I loved my apartment and the community for the first couple of months. It seems almost too good to be true at first site! But then, the real Cambria came out:
I have lived here since January 16. I was the first resident in my apartment. On Feb. 1, I found that my bedroom window was separating from the building. Not even two weeks, and major problems are occurring. Finally, I got someone to look at it on June 8. Did they get it fixed right away' No. It wasn't their fault. They "had to go through the builder to get it fixed." I understand that takes time, but not 3 more months. Then, all they did was paint over the mildew on my window sill (which got paint all over my velvet curtains) and caulk some of the cracks. As you can imagine, that hasn't done squat. It sill floods in my room everytime it rains and the caulk has pretty much disappeared. The plaster is falling off, I constantly have a gnat problem from the cracks, there is tons of water damage and my window sill is now pee-yellow from their inadquate painting.
Also, there is a trash problem. There is only one dumpster for the entire community!!! Not kidding. So, by Friday, people have to start leaving their trash by the side of the dumpster. The smell is horrific if you have to go there before trash pickup.
Then, the other day, I was looking at some new apartments and found out that there had been a shooting at my apartment complex the week before. I know they don't have to notify us, but this is a really nice neighborhood. You don't expect stuff like this to happen here, but it does.
There's more. When you are looking to move in, the office staff seems to jump to help you out, but as soon as you move in, the only way to get their attention is to go to the back offices and just start talking. They also won't let you have a copy of work orders if you request them and when they enter your apartment to fix something, they rarely leave anything behind to let you know they have been there.
Also, since the management seems to not care about the property, the residents don't either. There are massive quantities of dog poop everywhere and never any bags in the doggie stations. They don't mow often enough either. And, they supposedly give you $50 for referring someone...still haven't seen mine. And, every month there is supposedly a $50 drawing if you pay your rent on time. The same guy has been the winner for the past several months! I pay my rent several days before the end of the month, every month! They owe me at least $100.
Some good points:
--They spray often for bugs (which could be bad)
--The apartments themselves are nice and lots of room for dogs and children to play (except for the dog poop everywhere)
Overall, if management changed, a whole bunch of these issues might be resolved. The people that truly like it here are either really young (I'm 23 myself), have had no other experience (or bad experiences only) with apartment living, are men who actually get attention from the girls in the office, or they work here themselves. No one in my building is happy...I do know that for sure!
