Our troubles started on day one! We came to sign the lease and get the keys, the movers were waiting on us. When we got to our "new" apartment it was absolutely disgusting! The previous tenant was obviously a smoker as the walls, and blinds were yellow, the ceiling was black, and the entire apartment smelled like old stale smoke. The carpet was dirty; the bathtub/shower had a nasty grime on it; the medicine cabinet had mold in it; the carpet was pulling up from the corners; cabinets in the kitchen were crooked. We were not going to live in that! We went to the front office and conviently there were no other apartments like that available. Our only option was an apt that was $100 more a month!!! I was 8 months pregnant and out of work on FMLA so that was a lot of money at the time, but what were we going to do' We tried to negotiate with them, but they knew they had us in a tight situation and took advantage of it. We lived in this apartment for 18 months. We were NEVER late on rent or water. We never caused any troubles or were complained against. We got along very well with our neighbors (the only good part). Maintenance requests went unfulfilled, we had constant issues with spiders, fleas, and ants that the office wouldn't try to take care of because it's "part of apt living" as they said. We never felt safe. We had numerous people get robbed at the end of our building. The door handles and springs broke after a very short period in the apartment. The washer connector never worked properly despite the maintenance saying it was fine. Their "hardwood" floors were nothing but hardwood floor printed vinyl. There were staples sticking up along all of the room dividers and borders. The kitchen cabinets were still crooked. The kitchen faucet only worked on high, otherwise it had a lot of air and it was REALLY loud. Our A/C only cooled down the bathroom and the master bedroom. Our electric bill ran $250 for a 900 sq ft apartment. The A/C also leaked into our bathtub/shower. We were told this was normal as well. It rusted the tub, which I'm sure is "normal" too. The worse came when we moved out. We are currently in contact with the local BBB. Reason in a short: I called and asked twice and was told I owed nothing, then I receive a letter 6 months later from a collection agency claiming we owe $850. There is no itemization that they will give me. I strongly urge you to not live here unless you just can not get approved anywhere else! We had perfect rental history and now are having to fight to retain it. My family and I obviously trusted the wrong people!
And the new million dollar renovations' What a joke. It's a bad paint job on top of an old bad paint job...and my personal opinion...the colors are hideous together!

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 05/15/2009
A bad move-in experience can color any resident's opinion of their stay. I am very sorry that we failed you. That is certainly not the norm, nor is it acceptable. Please contact me regarding the collection account, so that I may attempt to straighten things out. You can reach me at 214-361-6666x103. Thank you for the opportunity to improve our services. -Ian Mattingly, Regional Supervisor

I already contacted you and was informed that, and I quote... "Since the file has been transferred to JSZ, you will have to deal with them to resolve the account."

That is true regarding the collection account as they now own that file, but I am anxious to discuss your comments regarding the condition of the apartment and your leasing experience.

I moved out in January and experienced similar. I asked the front office and was informed that I didn't owe. I just received a letter from collectors saying I owed them. I warn people they are playing a game. What is sad is they are winning.
