Bed Bugs!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I lived here for three years in one of the two-bedroom remodelled apartments. For two-and-a-half years, everything was fine. Then I started getting really itchy bug bites. It took me a while to figure out what they were from but finally discovered that bed bugs had invaded my room. They had come in from one of the neighboring units.
The apartment is trying to control the bed bugs, but it may be a losing battle. I know that several apartments have them and that they have been spreading to other units, though I don't know if the problem is restricted to only one or two buildings. By catching my infestation early and working with the pesticide people, I managed to get rid of my problem; however, I always worried that the bugs would come back from my neighbors. (On a side note, the pest control company used by the apartment is really good. The guy knows a lot about treating bed bugs.)
Other notes:
The complex is not fancy at all. No swimming pool, workout room, computer lab, etc. but then you're not paying for those extras either. The building is older, and some of the units are probably outdated, but the remodelled units seem pretty good, and they have replaced some of the older materials on the outside of the building. The maintenance people were fast to come fix problems, though it sometimes took them multiple tries. Once the hot water was broken for the entire building for two days. Our unit was well insulated, which probably helped keep our electricity bills down. The noise level depends on your neighbors. In general it wasn't too bad except when the the people upstairs had a party where people started jumping or when he would spend two hours every day learning to play some instrument. Roaches were not a problem. I just bought some 12-month roach baits and changed them once a year, and everything was fine. There was always plenty of parking for residents, but visitors would get towed if they didn't park in the poorly labeled visitor parking area. Even though I got along with the management pretty well, one lady always seemed to be giving off a vibe like any problems were my fault and bothersome to them. When we moved out we got almost all our deposit back.
Pros:
1. Walking distance to campus
2. Fairly low electricity bill
3. Lots of parking
4. Most of deposit returned upon moveout
Cons:
1. BED BUGS
2. No pool
In summary, I would recommend Casa del Sol if it weren't for the bed bugs. I ended up being able to keep all of my furninture and only had to throw away the stuff I had been storing under my bed. If you are really attached to your furniture, then I wouldn't live here.
