I've had worse

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
First off, I haven't lived here for a while. I left in May of 08 and am only just now getting around to writing a review.
I'll give the bad first. The apartments are old. The carpets were stained when I moved in and coming up in places. There were broken tiles on the fireplace. The fixtures were haphazard and random. My bedroom had a new fan, the dining room had an old fan, and my roommate's room didn't have a fan or a light fixture of any kind. When I first moved in my toilet didn't work. I called two or three times and nothing was done about it. It wasn't until my mom called (embarrassingly enough) that they finally came to fix it. They did send two people in the same day after she called. The first one fixed the problem and the second had no idea the first had come by and just tightened the connections. We did have ants in the apt, but when we reported it, the management sent someone by to spray the place quickly. We did have to vacuum them up ourselves however. The pipes are horrendous. The hot water works well, but cold water is a nightmare. You have to turn the faucet at least a half turn otherwise the pipes will make this unholy noise that would scare the ----- himself. It is fun to play with however...
There is ample parking, but the best spots fill up quickly and the lot can be dark at times. The pathways are dark as well. I was constantly on guard and uneasy when checking my mail, and when my little sister would visit (she had friends who lived in the same complex) I would always drive her to her friends apt rather than let her walk there alone.
When we first signed our lease, we were quoted a price and after we had paid the application bills and were filling out our contract, they told us that there was a $15 a month charge for our washer and drier connection (we didn't mind, but it would have been much more professional if they had told us this upfront).
Traffic is annoying, but no worse than anywhere else in College Station. I would use 2818 to get anywhere, because marrian pugh was a nightmare, as was welborn (during day hours). There are trains, but they were never really a problem. The apartments were close enough to walk to Kyle field, but not close enough to want to walk to class everyday.
Problems with deposit returns, but nothing that any other apt wouldn't do. We left the place cleaner than we found it, but they still only gave us 2/3 of our deposit back. Management changed halfway through our lease and from what I understand, prices went up. I didn't renew my lease so I'm not sure about that.
My apartment was very affordable for its size (I payed $372 a month (3 bedroom apt (more on that later)) and electricity was also reasonable (never above $130). The basic cable was somewhat disappointing, but it was free. I would have liked the option to get my own service though. The internet was the same. It worked and was usually fast enough, but I would have liked the option to add my own dedicated line. Once again, free, so can't complain too much. The water pressure was amazing, but I had an old shower head that would either fall off or send super small jets of water that would sting my flesh on contact. I used a different head and put the old one back on when I left. There was always hot water and it never took long for the water to heat up. The water was obnoxiously soft, but that is College Station's fault, not the complex's.
I had a huge walk in closet that I miss to this day, and my bedroom was also larger than my one back home. The place was quite enough, I never worried about loud neighbors and never really heard my upstairs neighbors either (a rare find in this burg). We had the only 3 bedroom apt on the complex, it was a two bedroom only the bedroom off the entrance had a hole knocked through its wall into the next apartment, so to get to the third bedroom, you had to walk through the other one. I had the room off by itself, so this never was a problem for me, and since it was the only apt of its kind, I doubt it will affect anyone else. Because we had the three bedroom, our rent was very reasonable. I am not sure of prices for the two or one bedrooms or how they compare. The living room and dining room were large but the living room was laid out so that it was challenging to fit furniture in a way in which it was usable while watching tv. There was also a fireplace, but I never used it.
Keep in mind that this was my first real apartment, so I may be a bit biased towards it, but I did enjoy my stay. I'll admit that the second part of my stay, after management switched, I was almost never there. I would use the place to sleep and shower, and that was about it. But, I would recommend the place as it was when I was there, especially now that I've moved into a much much worse apartment.
In summation, the place is old, and in a bad traffic location. The pipes will get on your nerves, but you could do much worse. I'm not terribly familiar with the pet policy, or the current prices, but it was a good find and a good deal for me. Its worth looking into, but you should probably do some more research before deciding for yourself.
