I moved in this apartment complex in part because of the good reviews this complex received. I am now living here for the third week. I have no complaint about the area where the apartment complex is located. The area itself is quiet and is on the bus route. However, the unit itself is quite problematic. The resident above me was having a loud party on the second day I moved in; the noise simply poured down my head as if there is no sound insulation at all. On the following weekend, I heard somebody having sex right on top of my head; the ceiling was creaking while somebody was moaning. Every day (especially the night time - up to midnight) I hear persistent noise from my neighbor's TV. I cannot concentrate doing my work without wearing earmuffs or ear plugs or both.

Update: having lived here now for three months, I can be certain that there is no sound insulation at all. You can hear exactly what happens in your neighbor's unit. If he is having a conversation with somebody, you can hear it. If he is walking right above you, you can hear it, not as some barely audible sounds, but as "bang! bang! bang!" You can always feel the presence of your neighbor living above you. If you want to look for a quiet place to live, make sure you pick a unit on the second floor, or you should seriously consider choosing another apartment complex. It is simply nonsense to say that the age of an apartment gives it charm. It seems the older an apartment is, the more problems there are with it.
