Pretty, quiet, laid-back, good service, but the area is getting a little iffy

We've lived here two years, and got here after James Point Management took it over. We moved here because 4 of my husbands friends had each spent at least 3 years in Hunter's Point (then Yellowhouse) and all said good things about it.

On one side of the street are duplexes with backyards - there is a waiting list for them, be warned, but they are quite nice. We lived on the other side which included 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. We have an unfurnished 2 bedroom/1 bath and it has served very well.

We have never had any problem with noise or neighbors - most people who live here seem to be young married couples, graduate students, and the occasional family. Yes, A&M Consol is just down the street, but management is good about towing any one who thinks our driveway is a parking lot during home games. The games never last late and we've had no trouble living near the school at all.

Maintenance has always been speedy and good. And they are updating the apartments between renters, so the place we moved into had fresh carpet and laminate. But the kitchen is TINY, little counter space, poor layout, and every appliance is dirt old. Especially the stove. But we've made it work, and that's saying something since I tend to cook from scratch.

Cable TV (Sunndelink, basic package) and wireless internet (Airimba, sometimes unreliable, slow enough that you'll always get fragged if you like online games) are included, and are good base options for someone who isn't serious about either.

There is always enough parking, and its a stop on the #31 Elephant Walk bus route.

However, we will be moving out soon, and here are the reasons:

- they only allow ONE pet (must be under 20lbs, and under 15in at the shoulder, I think). Renters who got here before JPM took over can keep their multiple pets, but new renters only get one.

- The wireless Arimba internet is unreliable (goes out once a month, for days at a time) and slow(for us). We're online gamers and even though the wireless internet is included in the rent, we went ahead and got suddenlink cable internet so we could play Unreal Tournament with a decent ping.

- We want a yard. We could get one of the duplexes, but then we can't get another dog.

- CRIME. A police officer told me it was starting to become a bad area, and that was May 2007. Just yesterday (Oct 08) management passed out flyers saying that crime was getting bad around the area and to be more careful. No thanks! (UPDATE: Dec 08) Several cars have been broken into; the officer responding recommenced we move East to the other side of Texas. We're taking that advice.

So, after a good run, its time to move to a safer place closer to campus! Thanks, Yellowhouse, for the good times. We'll miss you.
