These apartments were built around 1971, so they are severely lacking in the insulation, windows, and seals on the doors and windows. Our energy bill for a 2 bedroom apt. was over $300 in July. We tried using blackout/thermal curtains, but so much is lost through the uninsulated walls that it saved us very little. Also, you can hear EVERYTHING going on outside, even normal conversations.
The best parts about living here, though, are the management, the amazingly-quick and thorough maintenance staff, and the space.
Be prepared, also, if you were wanting to paint the walls: the walls are spackled inside and look exactly like the spackled ceilings. You can't really paint that. It was very disappointing. Also, the kitchen is amazingly small.
Because the seals on the doors and windows is not good, if you leave your outside light on, you will get all manners of insects in your house. We often have wood roaches getting in when it's either dry or cold.
The laundry room is awful and dirty and full of spiders (I always bring them back to the apartment with me when I go--yuck!). Most of the machines to not work. We take our laundry to a laundromat.
Management does do a good job of spraying for insects, so those that get in usually die pretty quickly, but if you want a nice apartment without such problems (and without the energy inefficiency), try getting a newer, more updated one. We are definitely leaving at the end of our lease.
