Awful

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008

The long and the short of it is that I do not recommend living in these apartments to anyone under any condition. The list of reasons that I do not recommend considering moving into these apartments is one hundred and ten miles long.
The top of the list are the physical problems with the apartment itself. Our pantry door frame is falling out of the wall. This probably would not happen if the walls had actual studs in them at the proper intervals, but nonetheless the pantry door falls on you when you try to open or close it. There is a leak under the dishwasher that has begun to rot the floor board. The kitchens sink leaks out of the side of the faucet so that the person using the kitchen sink receives a free shower. Our A/C went out in September 2008 the day after we got power back from Hurricane Ike. I guess it s a good thing that we got used to not having A/C for over a week because it took management well over a week to fix the A/C for good. It may have been easier to switch out a brand new un-used unit from the apartment next to ours rather than continually attempting to fix the ancient unit that we had. That does not work for management because they feel like it s easier to run things into the ground rather than replacing them. Two months after the A/C went out the heater went out in November 2008. Again, rather than replacing the unit management decides to fix it. Our large burner on the stove does not work. It is actually broken in the half after only 2 years of daily use. In August 2008 we could not take a bath for about 3 or 4 days because the water was literally black. When the water was not black it was tinged yellow and looked a lot like urine. There is enough sand in all of the walk ways to fill several sandboxs. The sand has ruined many pairs of work shoes because I am forced to walk through the sand which destroys my heels. Finally, we have a friend living in our wall. We are not entirely sure what species of friend we have, but I am pretty certain that it is a rat. We have had this rat living in our wall for well over 6 months. I no longer get scared when I hear her rummaging around in our wall for whatever it is that rats eat because I ve gotten used to her. My husband and I have gotten so used to her that we ve named her Lisa Pope . It is sad that we got used to a rodent living inside of our walls because as you know, rats carry many harmful diseases that could injure or kill any human. You may wonder why we do not complain to management about these problems. Well we do. I used to tell Melinda Pope every single time something went wrong in our apartment; however, nothing ever got fixed. I finally decided to write a letter of my discontent in the apartment. Lisa called me the same day telling me exactly why these things could not be fixed or what they were doing to fix them.
A/C and Heater old appliances break every so often and we cannot replace them while a tenant is living in the apartment. (Well that makes a lot of sense to me let s have the new units on the vacant apartments).
Burner we have 3 others to cook on. (Well alright then. Tell someone who just lost their leg well you still have 3 other good limbs).
Black water that s not the apartments fault. That s the city of Conroe s fault, but they would be more than happy to call the City of Conroe for me. (Never mind the fact that I ve lived in Conroe for several years and I ve never had an issue with black water).
Rodent Lisa Pope they had several protests to this problem. They sent out a maintenance man to close the panel that was peeled back that allowed the rodent in our wall. (That s a fantastic idea! Let s close the rodent inside the wall so that it can die and stinks up the entire apartment). They sent out another maintenance man to listen for the rat at 4 o clock in the afternoon. They have actually sent out someone to come listen several times because we have told them that she is still living in there. The problem with coming to listen for a rodent during the day is that rodents are known to be nocturnal. For Cimarron residents nocturnal means: active at night . For Cimarron management: That means that rats sleep during the day (i.e. 4pm you won t hear them because they are asleep!) and they are active at night (i.e. 4am is when little Lisa Pope is active and wakes us up.)

As if the physical problems are not enough for me to recommend never living here, management is allowing anyone with cash in hand move into the apartments. The apartments have always been government housing, but the first year of living here it was not an issue because your neighbors were still civil, clean, and cordial. The neighbors now are drug dealers, drunks, thieves, strippers, and overall trashy people. January 2008 a new roommate couple moved into the apartment down the way from my family. These people would have visitors at all times of the day and night. The visitors would stay for 10 or 15 minutes at a time before leaving. Every rare once in a while the visitors would not be invited into the apartment and you could easily see the exchange of money and bags . Children are allowed to play outside with no supervision which is dangerous to the children as well as to the property of other residents. The management s response to this issue is well there is no outlet for the children to play because we had to take our play ground down (Lisa, Cimarron Management, September 3, 2008). June 2008 my husband and I answered the door to one of the few decent tenant s living at Cimarron. She told us that a child ran his bike down the side of my husband s brand new car. The child drove his bike with metal handle bars down the left side of my husband s car from the back bumper to the front bumper causing $1500 worth of paint damage, which we cannot afford to fix and the father of the child told us that $200 should cover it . August 2008 my neighbor had just finished bar-b-queing for all of us and while we were inside a kid who was supposed to be taking the trash out, threw his trash bag over the side of the porch onto the hot grill. This caused the plastic to melt onto the bar-b-queue which ruined the grill. More and more families are moving in with more and more children. The parents of these children do not supervise their children at all and I am sure that these incidents are just the beginning of what is to come.
We have come home to police cars in the parking lot several times which is always a very comforting feeling. September 2008 police were on the premises due to a man walking around exposing himself to young children. I was warned by one of our good neighbors and I was afraid for my daughter s and my wellbeing since we were going to be home alone for upwards of 4 hours. December 2008 police were outside of our building in the parking lot because a man attempted to run over a woman with his car in front of her children. This is definitely not the environment that I want to raise my three year old daughter in.
We got robbed! February 8, 2008 my husband, daughter, and I came home to our apartment being broken into, our dogs kennel being covered with a blanket, and all of our electronics being gone. My husband used to be off on Monday s and he would open the back window (that faces the woods) and play his video games. Apparently someone saw the video games, computer system, and other electronics that we worked hard for and earned. The thieves took my husband s computer monitor, my laptop used for school, our Wii, his Xbox360, all games, went through our closets upstairs and downstairs to steal luggage to carry the loot out. Management did not so much as apologize they were very nonchalant when I told them that I needed to have my back window fixed.
Management is RUDE! When you pay on time and they lose the check and they treat you like 2nd class citizens when requesting money back. Melinda lost our check December 2007, November 2008, and December 2008. After receiving our notice that we are moving out, they have lost our checks twice and are attempting to charge us $150.00 in late fees because apparently it is our fault that checks going missing when we drop them in the night deposit drop box. When management requests items to be moved off porch they curse your name in front of other neighbors rather than politely requesting in writing or with a phone call. September 11, 2008 Melinda Pope was speaking to a neighbor of ours regarding the upcoming hurricane. She stated that ---- like that gesturing towards our porch will be moved or they will be fined per Lisa . She did not realize that we were outside and heard every word of her conversation. The next day we had a notice on our door. We had a grill and a chair that we had planned to pull inside that evening 2 days before the hurricane hit. When calling for general maintenance the rudeness varies depending on which manager you get on the phone. Lisa: Belittles you and makes you feel as though it is completely your fault for needing maintenance. Melinda: Will not put your request in. Either way nothing ever gets fixed.
Finally, I would like to note that I do not know any resident that enjoys living here and plans on renewing their lease; therefore, it is my belief that the management wrote the previous reviews.
