Not bad....but not good either: A realist's review

Everyone knows that apartment complexes can be good, bad and sometimes both at once. Kensington Park falls into the latter of those categories. When I first moved in a year ago...I fell in love with the place. The apartments were pretty attractive, my floor plan was generous for a one bedroom and the price wasn't too bad. I live in the A2, and I pay around 675 a month. After I realized my neighbor upstairs was a persistent noise-maker, I got irritated. He stomped like nothing I've heard, and he would play his rap music all hours of the night, vibrating my ceiling and knocking my kitchen light loose enough to make it stop working. I am okay with SOME music playing but NOT at 3am! I called management several times, talked to them in person but never got a result. They did ACT like they cared and like they were going to get off their butts and do something, but I have a feeling they did nothing about this particularly noisy tenant. However, it's not like I would actually walk upstairs and ask the guy if he recieved a warning about his music. But it never stopped until he moved out.
The paint in these apartments is cheap, you can brush against the wall and the paint just chips off the corners. They have painted the base boards so many times without cleaning them that there is hair and other fuzzy junk painted into them. And don't rub up against the walls either, it leaves dark marks that looks similar to pencil lead.
In the last 3 or 4 months...there have been a couple of new girls in the office. I am not sure if the manager has changed, but I think that the staff morale has improved SOMEWHAT since I moved here. They are helpful, but you have to speak with them in person to get a result. I have had some good results with things that have come up in the last couple of months.
The maintenance is great, they respond fairly quickly to issues that need to be taken care of and are extremely nice. On a bad note, I have had some water damage issues that remain unaddressed. I have been persistent with the staff but they seem to be uncaring. Oh well. It's not money that comes out of my pocket....and it just keeps getting worse as I have told them several times.
Parking is fine...people make such a huge deal about it, though. How hard is it to walk a few extra feet to your apartment' If you want to be super close to your door -buy a parking spot that is covered and get over it! Walking is the least of problems in most apartment complexes but people cry about it on a regular basis!
The gates at these apartments are fishy. They are often left open for public access...and even though management has attempted to make the apartments more secure, they created even more problems. The gate code never works...and for a good month or two - my remote didn't work either. I had to get it replaced even though they gave me a brand new one when I moved in. So I was stuck waiting for ten minutes at a time to get into MY OWN apartment complex.
Even though I have a few gripes....these apartments have been fairly good to me and so have the staff. I would say that it's a great place to live if you are familiar with apartment living and all the quirks that come with it. If you want privacy, noise-free living and everything catered to your liking - get a HOUSE! The staff could have improved a little bit at first, but overall I have been happy. Good things about the complex include an outgoing mailbox, nice landscaping and scenery, attractive apartment layouts and the inside of them are pretty, decent rates (when I signed my lease anyway)...and very close businesses for your shopping needs. Corinth is a nice city anyway.
Also...and this is IMPORTANT: KEEP RECORDS of what you pay....and PAY ON TIME for the love of God! This apartment complex tried to charge me for some unpaid balance on my account that did not exist. After calling and letting them know that I had no sort of charges or reason to be charged, they cleared it up and stated it was a mistake. How you mistakenly attempt to charge someone over 100.00 for something you have no record of it beyond me. So just keep up with your payments and be sure you have proof that you paid - on time. That way....when apartment complexes make mistakes - you can correct it and move on. Be careful with this place on that topic.
Happy apartment hunting!
