Poor experience

My boyfriend and I lived in Kensington Park from the May 07-May 08. We realized pretty much on move-in day that we had made the wrong decision. We requested an apartment with no fireplace because we needed the extra room, and were told we were getting one. However, on move-in day, we discovered we DID have a fireplace. When we brought this to the attention of the office staff, we were basically told to deal with it because a fireplace was seen as a perk. The apartment had also obviously not been cleaned, and we ended up cleaning it ourselves, rather than waiting the two days we were told we'd have to wait for staff to clean it. Our tub needed re-caulking, and we got that fixed, but they wouldn't paint the cabinets that had hair dye all over them. We also were told we were getting two covered parking spots, and even signed the paperwork for them. Then on move-in day, there were none available!
Our stay here did not get much better. It often took a long time for maintenance to respond to problems (and there were many), but we felt this was due to lack of communication in the office, not by poor maintenance workers. Once the maintenance worker told me that the office had never even given them my request. We had continuous leak problems, and returned home after Thanksgiving to find our bathroom flooded. Eventually these leaks led to water damage of the cabinets.
In the one year we lived here, we went through 2 or 3 managers, and not one was better than the last. They were slow to return calls and respond to problems. One girl, with red hair (don't remember her name) even lied right in front of me and told April I had never called, when I had called numerous times. Every person I dealt with was rude.
One of the appeals of the complex for us was curbside trash pick up. However, soon after we moved in, they took this amenity away. There was only one trash compactor in the community, and it was often overflowing with trash. The pool was mostly green during the summer we lived there, and the gate almost never worked properly.
After we moved out, I called to check on my security deposit. April told me they were keeping part of it because I didn't clean the fridge well enough, and they would send the rest to my new address. I was fine with this; however, I never received the rest of my security deposit. I called to check on what happened to it, and could never get anyone to call me back.
All in all, we had a poor experience. I will say we never experienced any noise problems, and always felt safe here. The apartments themselves were nice, once cleaned and before the leak problem occured.

The month you moved out was the month I moved in. The pool was still green, the trash still overflowing, the staff still unorganized, the apartments still dirty upon moving in, and the maintenance spotty.

Man, I am sad to hear that Kensington Park is falling apart. When I lived there, the service was good, not great...but still good. It sounds like they are now down to POOR. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. Trash pickup is a definite must for large complexes and to hear that they stopped doing that is a shame on them.

I have been there since October and I like the place. The only thing ever bad was the pool was shut down a couple times in the summer. Everyone complains about staff but they always say hi and seem friendly to me when I come in to use the business center. with an apt complex this big not everyone will be happy I know, but they do alot of events for kids and my kids enjoy that and one thing I noticed, they are actually keeping the gates closed at all times now....

I have posted my own review on this site before regarding Kensington Park and will definitely say that I had almost an identical experience as BrittanyPS. The service was horrible! We had very similar issues with maitence, aparment not being cleaned upon our move-in, tubs needing to be re-caulked (which they never did) and them keeping our security deposit PLUS the refundable part of our pet deposit for no reason at all...we left that place way better than we found it! Still VERY angry with the whole experience there! Corporate needs to know what's going on and how they are running what used to be a very nice place straight into the ground!

If a property does not refund you or send you a the reasons why (via a statement) then you can sue them for 3 times the deposit, plus attorney, plus $100.00.....

It doesn't matter if you have proof (via documents or photographs) that they are wrongfully taking your money, lying or random illegal leasing business, because the corporate office will side with the staff and close your case without contacting you. April gets to do what she wants - she owns this place now.
